Solar rock guards fit problem – 1973 Safari

Hi Folks –

I bought a one piece solar wrap (part #685250) for a '73 Safari. This is the only one piece wraparound Airstream sells – or so they tell me.

Here's the deal.

The support arm brackets that hold the unit up like an awning that are on the wrap are about 48.5 inches (I’m not home to do an actual measurement) apart.

The splice bars between the windows on my Safari are about 46 inches apart.

If I were to mount the support arm brackets to the point they drop down to on my rig, they would have to be mounted to glass – clearly not a good idea!

So I think the question is: Is there a way of bending/crimping/folding the support arm brackets to make the two inch correction inward on each side without degrading the strength of the piece and still allow them to work?

Perhaps I'm missing something?

Any help would be appreciated!

I just drilled holes in the window frame between the glass, and mounted them there. I had no problem doing this, and it works well. I can post a picture of where I mounted the braces, if you can wait a few days 'till I get to the trailer again.

Sounds like you have one of the rockguards with the brackets mounted on the outside of the vertical supportd.

Take the brackets off and reverse them by installing them on the indie of the vertical supports.

got it!

overlander63 - Thanks for the offer but I think we got it last night.

Andy, I took your advice and did the bracket flip. That, with a little English worked like a charm!

Thanks to both of you!

Herb
