Question Segment Protector install

To install segment protectors, where in relation to the vertical row of rivets on the front panel of the AS does the piano hinge attach?

vertical ribs

There are two vertical ribs, one on each side of LP bottles, below front window. They are pretty obvious because there are many rivets in a vertical pattern. If all else fails, look at another unit with the protectors installed.

This row of rivets in the two vertical ribs is the reason for asking the above question.

Do these rivets have to be removed to attach the segment protector piano hinge? Or, is the vertical strut wide enough to position the piano hinge on one side or the other of this row of rivets in order to drill the new holes for mounting the segment protectors?

I just ordered a set of segment protectors for our '84 Sovereign from Inland Andy last week. I'll have the same installation questions, I imagine, that you will since our trailer did not have them previously installed. (We are concealing a basketball sized dent with our segment protectors. )

Maybe we could share some pictures, etc. I have done a lot of searches on this forum but cannot find the exact info for mounting these.

I forgot

Here is a pic of the hinge fastened to the rib over the rivets. Mine came on the trailer and I dont know if the install is correct but they fit well. Robert

Thanks all for the replies and photos.

I recently looked at a new AS and it does appear that the hinge is mounted on top of existing rivets. It just doesen't seem like the best idea.

I know this is getting close to being over analyzed and I'm going to mount the things and be done with it, but I would like to know how wide the vertical struts are and if there is enough room on one side to drill and mount the hinge.
