outside window covers

I am interested in making a cover for the front window rock guard of my trailer as seen on this months cover of TL, a picture worth framing I might add, has anyone done this type of window cover using awning canvas over the rock guard?
The second outside window covering I'd like to do using navy blue awning canvas is make covers for all the windows using snaps to attach them, the problem I see so far is 1. I dont have the guts to drill holes in my trailer, 2. potential leak source, 3. the only snaps I can see using are the screw in type that I havent found very successful in other applications, they always come loose. Does anyone have experience doing this? if so tell me about it.

Are you are going to use the window covers while the windows are open, for shade?

If so I have see covers that are 2 layers of fabric sewn inot a pouch the same size as the windows. The opening is at the top with 2 snaps in an inch or so from the sides. You slip the pouch over the window and snap the fabric to itself and this holds it in place. I have seen the same thing done with strips of cloth on the back but these tend to flap in the breeze.

Hmmm, I did'nt think of that I was just thinking of when its parked, but that is a good idea, use the pouch as a shade and when the trailer is'nt in use turn it around so the pouch opening is on the bottom to keep water/snow out and use it as a cover, I like it.
