My Hook Things Won't Hook

Today was day one of Spring in NJ. I decided to wash and wax the Airstream. I am owner 3. One and two never unscrewed or unlatched the window protectors or bannana wraps to ever wash or wax. Everything was going well until I could not hook/latch/turn the hook type part that holds my left front window protector closed. It goes into a gasket like round hole and it just won't stay tight. Thankfully my other side is fine, which is how I know I need to do about a half turn to close it. My front window will keep side closed, but I know this needs to be fixed.

- thick washer part on Airstream is not screwed into trailer, but perhaps riveted? How do I fix this?

- Can I drive the trailer with it closed and held in by front window?
-Does it have to be repaired at dealer or can an RV repair fix it?

Thank you for you help with this matter, I am hoping it is something I cam fix myself. Susan

You can fix it yourself, go to one of the on-line suppliers that sell Airstream parts. The part you need is called a "Zues fastener" they ar commently used in light airplanes.

http://airstreamsupply.com/New-Airst...ent-protectors

Scroll down on that page to:

RUBBER RECEPTACLE, #82-35-306-10 STONEGUARD/WRAP PROTECTOR
Rubber Receptacle, #82-35-306-10 Airstream Rockguard

Turn fastener stud
Turn fastener stud for Airstream Rock Guard ..

Get both parts, they are easy to install....

Good luck,

Larry

If it was me I wouldn't drive with it un- latched. If it flies open on the road it could cause lots of damage. I had to replace one on our last AS and it wouldn't fit either. I'm not telling you to do this (and it may not help yours) but I took the protector off the AS and bent the bracket that attaches to the AS.
