How do you replace center Window Rock Guard?

A rock hit the center window rock guard and cracked it. It did it’s job In saving the window. I have ordered a new rock guard but am not sure of how to remove and install.

Any knowledge and or experience with removing and reinstalling the Center Window Rock Guard?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Welcome Aboard 👍

Looking at our Classic it appears that you will need to remove the two support arms, lift,(open) the window up until the two hinge channels separate.

if you have a 3 section rock guard you will have to remove the left and right corner guards. then remove arms and pop rivet at ends of upper channel. raise panel up to a 90 degree angle and slide center section to remove. Some panels separate when opened past 90 degrees, if you have this style frame you don't need to remove side panels.
If you look at frame on broken section the frame can be removed from Plexi or Lexan and a new piece can be made and installed. Probably cheaper than new center section.

We had a STAR FRACTURE from a stone on our 2006 Safari from plastic window guard.

After 8 years, never had another impact, nor the side window guards deflecting debris with a KISS.

Cut a piece of clear packing tape, adhered it on the backside of the plastic.

It is a Rock Guard... it will deflect gravel in the future and get impacts. Keep it, tape the whack... and you saved your glass window. If clear tape does not work for you... a Happy
Face.

Is it possible to replace just the 'Plexiglas' part or do you need to replace the whole unit?

Yes - you can replace just the plexiglass. This is commonly how it's done. Any good plastics supplier in your area can get you the correct tint plexiglass and even cut it to size for you.

A new piece of acrylic cut to size cost me about 70 bucks.

My rock guard was broken when I purchased our Bambi. I replaced only the broken plexiglass. Removing the guard from the trailer was simply a matter of some screws in the upper hinge being removed and the guard slid out to the side. I drilled out the rivets holding the two halves of the frame together and cleaned out all the plexiglass and rubber channel. Got a piece of tinted polycarbonate cut from a plastic shop ( corners were simple 6" radius ). The new poly was 1/4" compared to the old 1/8" plexiglass. I set it in the frame with silicone adhesive; leaving out the rubber channel made it a perfect fit. Use some hard forged aluminum stock to cut and file two inserts to connect the frame halves and use the old rivet holes. Better than new!
