How about MUD FLAPS?

I have the Enkay Rock Tamers and like them fine.

As you can see in the pictures, you should use Rock Tamers on GM products, and the other brand on Fords.

I like Rock Tamers. A 5mm ball socket T handle will make it easy to remove the flaps. Otherwise the hitch is too heavy and awkward to take off. I hang the flaps on the wall in the garage when we're not on the road.

Great idea, I have always just used brawn to place and remove the hitch. thanks for the post.

The solid rubber Enkay Rock Tamers will work on ANY US-made pickup. They make a great product that really does procect your trailer.

See my post#18 for a post-trip report on the Rock Tamers - they are a well made product that WORKS!

They appear to be adaptable for most all 'towing' vehicles - you do need about 1 inch of space on the hitch 'shank' to mount em'...I highly recommend them - I ordered mine through Amazon...$167...

Thanks Ray, Your link gave me more links. My receiver on my 2000 Yukon XL only has about 1/2" of flat shank exposed between the buildup on the tube end and the welded mounting bracket on the top.



Anyone know if a clamp on Rock Tamer will work? The web page says it needs one inch. There is one inch total including the buildup on the tube end. I might have to find one and look at it.

The fringed hula skirt types shown in post 1 have a rep as less than nothing. I have rock tamers -- and yet have scarred up the front of my Safari when traveling on dirt roads. Rock Tamers -- better, but not foolproof IMO.

Yes it will. The Rock Tamer bracket slides over the hitch shank, not the receiver tube.
So if you put the shank in the receiver and line up the holes, you need an inch of exposed shank sticking out of the receiver tube, outside of the built up ring on the end of the receiver.

Oh, I was reading wrong. Thanks for relieving me of another delusion. My hitch is a Reese dual cam. I'll try that but I bet it's got plenty of room.

Plenty of room. In fact, I was able to move the hitch on my Tahoe forward by almost 3 inches.

Good for a short wheelbase Tahoe. Probably not needed for a Yukon XL.

Good picture, Thanks! Looks like you're using the rock guard as a depth stop gage for aligning the pin hole. Am I right?
