Front Window Guard Removal

To remove my subject Plexi rock guard, do I need to drill out the rivets and remove the whole frame, hinge unit, etc. from the body?

It almost looks as though the frame may slide into and out of the hinge track. The side window wings would have to be open, but it sure would be less hassle than the rivet job.

Hi,

Without looking at how it was installed I'm just guessing but the hinge may come apart. If not and it's riveted you will need to drill the old ones out.

If you are replacing it with a new one do you have plans for the one you're removing? I'm looking for a 3 piece panorama unit for my Argosy and would be happy to help with removing the old one if it's available.

Thanks,

John in Elk Rapids, MI

The upper hinge is 2 part, one is screwed to the shell the other is part of the frame,. You can either unscrew the whole unit or you can drill out the end rivet that keeps the hinge from sliding left or or right.
If the caulking looks poor I would say unscrew the unit so you can reseal it.
Once off, the frame can then be taken apart on one side to free up the plexi.
be carefull drilling out the rivets so you don't drill thru the entire frame.

Edit: mine is screwed to shell yours may be riveted?

John,

I may replace it, but first I am going to try spray painting the plexi with Krylon Fusion paint. If I am not happy with my result, I will replace.
I will keep you posted after my painting attempt. It may be awhile as I am up to my eyebrows with the bride's "more important" honey do list.
Feel free to check back as I may forget.

Jeff
