Airkrafters Segment Quilt

Airkrafters has a protector that goes over the stone guards called SegmentQuilt. Yeah, a protector on the stone protector. Anyone have any experience with this, or am I just being overly cautious about the appearance of the stone guards? If you did get it, did you self-install it, and how well did that process work? I can just see me getting either bubbles in it or getting it crooked and then having an "improvement" that looks like something Jethro Clampett did.

Thanks for any feedback!

We saw these at the last Airstream international rally in Maine last year. They look good on the front and are a quality product. Vinny's Airstream repair was there, selling them and they are from Airkrafters.

If you go to Airkrafter's website, download the pdf on how to install them. Looks pretty straightforward, and with the help of another pair of hands, peeling off the backing in the order they suggest will keep the panel aligned properly.

My wife just bought me a set for my birthday! We will be going to the Airstream rally in Wyoming this year to meet Vinny and pick them up. I'll let you know how it goes!

First there was just the front skin on an airstream. Then there were stainless steel protectors to prevent dings in the skin (which is now concealed).
Now, there is protection for the protectors. Where does it end, lol. When these stickers get road tar—there will be a clear vinyl product sold to protect these protectors of the protectors?
All in good fun. I do understand the desire to keep these tin cans looking pristine :-)

Airkrafters Segment Quilt

Thanks for pointing these out. I agree w pcskier, these are totally nutty, and cost $650/pair compared against $1100 for 2 replacement segment protectors.

(I do respect anyone who is supporting an independent third-party vendor, and maybe they’re worth it for someone with a brand-new trailer who travels frequently on gravel roads, or who needs a novel way to find their trailer at a rally )

Whoah. I had commented before I even knew the cost. Yikes.

In my mind the stainless protectors are there to take the little dings. They are sacrificial. Dings in them is what they are for. Next will be protection for the window guards, and then protection for the aluminum panels on the leading edge of the trailer above the windows. Maybe a stainless deflector up there. That can then be protected by quilts similar to these—so it doesn’t get…dings from protecting the deflector.

Anyway—I’ll do me, obviously, everyone has free will. But if ideas get posted here, I think it is open season for feedback and opinion :-)

Anybody ever see stainless rust? I'm sure these things don't hold moisture, or allow road grime to collect behind them.

Are there dishwasher safe?

I purchased a pair last year at while in Maine - Fantastic design and look factory. Wish I had been the brainchild on this one.

Peel & stick for 650 bucks is laughable.

There are hi tech custom formed clear poly panels that fit over all the panels after the ceramic coating goes on, to protect it.

I showed the padded protectors to my wife at the Wyoming International. Her take on it was as mentioned above. Why??
She then said it would make more sense to add pads to hide the stainless protectors AFTER they got beat up.

Yes I am new to Airstreams but this product has been used in the boating industry for quite some time! You can buy sheets of this material and cut to any shape you desire as I have done with my inshore and offshore boats. If you want an exact cut out you can make templates of what you want and send into the company so they can scan and cut out on CNC machine. Type-in Seadek on Amazon and you will see multiple products that do the exact samething and you can choose your color and finish. I will make a template out of cardboard and then lay down on the back side of the SeaDek and cut out with a razor blade. Take your time applying as the peal and stick 3M-adhesive is not very forgiving.
