Shower door sweep
Someone please tell me I don’t have to remove the entire shower door to replace the cheesy vinyl sweep at the bottom of the door.
I got all the bottom screws out, it won’t budge. It looks like they installed that bottom plate and then put the door around it. Please tell me I’m wrong.

Shower door sweep
I have a flying cloud 28. To change the sweep on mine all I did was slide the old one out. I purchased the sweep at Airstream. I cut the new one to length and slid it in.

Thanks for the reply — the problem is I can’t get that bottom plate with the groove in it to move. I’ve got the new sweep...
How do you slide in the new one if you can’t go in from one end or the other?

Wait. Am I seeing things right here? That's your new sweep laying there in the picture, it goes on the bottom of the door right?
What's that on the stepover there? Is that where the sweep goes on your older model?
I see a phillips head screw there, and a bunch of caulk beyond it, is that what has to come out? Looks like that screw is holding down a metal plate.
If so, it might take some coaxing.
I'm probably way off.
Anyway, the sweep is on the bottom of the door on our unit, it just slides in and out.

Looking at it again, you probably have a new sweep there, it looks like one that would install on a newer unit. I'm not sure it's what you'll need for your sweep looks to be attached to the base of the shower, the stepover there.
Maybe that plate is caulked in there real good.
I'm guessing there is no sweep on the bottom of your door, right?

Yeah, I have the new sweep ready to go. I just cannot budge that bottom plate. On the left side, it is tucked under the door frame. On the right side, with all of the screws removed and the caulk peeled out, I couldn’t get any movement at all, even wedging the plate with a putty knife.
I’ll try again tomorrow but I am not going to disassemble the door frame...
Thanks for your help,
Mike

Put a little hair dryer heat to that metal strip while trying to get it off there.

Box cutter should do it. I didn’t bother replacing mine. All it did was squeegee water into the hallway. Works better without a sweep actually (for me anyways).

Thank you all! Box cutter did it — there was about a pound of sealant between the metal plate and the 3/4” plywood beneath it...
Sadly, the new sweep from ODMRV doesn’t fit and no one has the old “J” gasket that was used in 2008.
So, I will forgo any for now while searching for a new bottom plate and sweep.
Thanks again, everybody!

Nice! I thought that new sweep was a 'modern' one. Hope you can track one down. If not, be on the lookout for door sweeps, gaskets, etc. that might be modified to work
