Maiden Voyage

My wife and I were sad to see our 2001 Bambi go, but it went to a good home. Our sadness was soothed by the arrival of the new 2008 25'FB. Got the Equal-i-zer hooked up and we are ready to go. Leaving today from Denver to Moab for the weekend. Hopefully the weather will cooperate, and the Suburban is up to the task of dragging the new trailer up the big hills. I have pulled lots of trailers and done lots of winter mountain driving, but a larger brand new trailer does make me a little nervous.

Congratulations on your new baby! We also have a 25FB, named Lucy. We have spent over 220 nights in her in the last eighteen months, and love the floorplan. We also pull Lucy with a 2500 Suburban. This combo works very well for us, and we've done almost 30,000 miles.

One of the reasons we bought the AS was because of the FB floorplan. I could live in this thing full time.

We made our first trip, other than taking it home from the dealer in Lakewood, to Moab too with our '08 Safari 25 FB. We stayed at a campground just south of the middle of town so we could walk around Moab. The narrow highway along the Colorado River was "educational" and I was very glad not to meet anyone with a motorhome coming the other way.

I don't know when you're coming back, but there's a chance of snow over Vail Pass for the next few days.

Thanks for all of the nice wishes. We made it there and back with no other troubles than some ski traffic. The Suburban did a good job westbound, but eastbound is a little steeper, just was forced to go a little slower. We tend to use antifreeze for winterization here in Colorado, how do others handle the water filter under the sink? I think it may actually remove the pink dye of the antifreeze, it was tough to tell when all of the water was out. We also got quite a bit of condensation dripping from the fantastic fan knobs in the morning after cooking some steamy pasta the night before, probably should have used the range hood fan a little more.
All in all, we loved everything about the new camper, cant wait to do it again soon.

Yeah, ventilation is important while cold weather camping. Use the stove fan and crack the window over the dinette, or crack one of the fantastic fans. Were you using the heat pump or furnace while camping?

We used the furnace. Have yet to try the heat pump. The larger trailer does not heat up as quickly as our 19 footer. I don't think we noticed the condensation in the older camper due to the carpeted interior skin. The new aluminum skin shows the condensation more clearly. Of course things dried out quickly given that Moab is even more dry than Denver.

Remove the filter before using the antifreeze. I was nervous about that, but there's a valve that closes automatically when the filter is removed. Otherwise you'd have to depressurize and partially drain the system when it comes time to change the filter. When I removed the filter I found a battery (watch type) taped to it. It is supposed to be installed somewhere and I think it lets you know when the filter is used up. The instructions never say where it goes. Maybe you'll solve that one.

Glad you enjoyed your trip and made it there and back between storms. We're off to Santa Fe in a couple of days.
