OK, here's our new Airstream Safari Sport 22'. Fully loaded just at 4000# and 400# on the ball, no WDH. Went to the Chiricahua mountains last weekend and she pulls like a dream. Hit the Santa Anna winds head on, gusting to 45mph up in Texas Canyon on I-10, absolutely no sway. Going, we needed the AC on and got 14mph. Coming back it was cold and the wind was at our back, got slightly over 17mph.

Nice set up, seems like a good combo, the Sport and a Honda. I am sure you are gonna get a lot of questions from folks on the forum. Good info and picture, how about some more.

Congratualtions, looks great. I am jealous of that mileage. I have a V10 Van and the mileage is terrible as you might imagine.

You don't have to be jealous, your A/S is almost twice the weight of mine and your TV probably close to that too. I set the speed control on 64mph and leave it there because the Ridgeline seems to like it. Still have plenty of power to pass if I need to. Also, we have to be more careful with the loading where you have more latitude.

First of all those many questions for you about your trailer:
How big are the beds when made up as beds? I am assuming the gaucho folds out into one as well?
How much space is there between the guacho in bed form and the cabinets? Seriously, can someone sleeping in the dinette get to the bathroom?
How many people are you camping with? It is us and two kids (maybe 3 eventually) and a small dog.
I would love something smaller then what we have had, something I don't have to remodel, (although Steve has his eye on an old international nearby) and that I could tow with my mom mobile.

Dinette makes into a queen, gaucho into a std.? There is a 15" walk space which is adequate if you are of average proportions. There is two of us and two standard Poodles, 56 and 60#'s. We most likely will never use the gaucho as a bed. For us the space is great but for you guy's it might be cramped as your kid's get older.

Thanks for the post. I learned a lot. I pick my ne w 22' Safari Sport in the morning. I'm pulling it with a 2007 5.7L Toyota Tundra. I could not be more excited!

I am picking up my 22' Safari Sport on Monday and am brand new to all thisl Can you give me an idea of what I should look for pre-delivery? Is there a pre-delivery checklist for us newbies? Any advice is very much appreciated.

Look in all the closets on the floors and any of the storage places. The factory is notorious for leaving extra screws behind.
I would suggest spending the night at the dealer if possible use everything in evey way you can think of! My A/C unit had a strange noise. They fixed it the next morning.

Well, here's my first post: we pick up our new 22' Safari Sport tomorrow morning! I'm so excited, this is our first Airstream, we've been coveting them for years. We'll take her on a one night camp trip next weekend, so hope all will work out with the new rig. This forum is great info, I'm sure I'll be here lots for questions, support, etc!

Shakedown Voyage: About 180 mile trip, camped on a rural Texas Hill Country ranch, AC power only, onboard water. Overall: five stars. Great TT! Felt surprisingly roomy, even though we went from 26x8 (SOB) to 22x7 (A/S). Kept an eye out after reading the very helpful 2008 model year QC issues thread, but almost no issues to report.

Pros:

Structure: Solid! Steady as a rock with the jacks down. The SOB bounced like a trampoline when you walked the length to the bathroom. Quiet – much better insulated than we’re used to, and carpeted versus classic shiny walls helped out there.

Facilities: The bathroom is the nicest I’ve ever experienced in a TT: very roomy, quality metal fixtures, no leaks. In the SOB I felt like I’d punch through the flimsy plastic, and always managed to dribble around the seals. Less storage space than the SOB, but always managed to find a cubbyhole for odd-sized things.

Sleep: Slept good on the front dinette “Super Queen.” Only needed a 1 inch foam topper to smooth it right out. My back didn’t complain about the really firm foam cushions. We’ll try the ‘gaucho sleepo’ next trip, but I think rest quality is really good

Towing: Amazingly smooth. TT seems well-matched to the torque curve of the small block V8. Had to drop a gear once, on the same terrain that made the SOB and same TV downshift five times (always towing with overdrive off, of course). Fuel usage was a reasonable 12 mpg at 65mph, up from 9-10 before, but we had a good 20 mph headwind/crosswind, so that will improve in calm conditions.

Cons:

Plumbing: Water pump sounded like it was going to tear through the bulkhead. Gotta research this group about maybe quieting it down. Rarely boondocked with the SOB, so we didn’t hear a pump very much. Water faucet valves are very sensitive – tiny adjustment range between warm, and ouch!

Warranty issue: Awning arm had a cracked bracket. Riveted pot metal on the lower support arm. So, no artificial shade this time.

Next trip: the beach in two weeks!

We’ve drunk deeply of the Airstream Kool-Aid, and it be fine…

And what's the deal with toasters that match trailers?
