Wheel pattern, 53 Silver Streak Clipper

First time here, cool site! We've been given ("Come git 'er, haul 'er away") a Clipper, it's been sitting for 25+ yrs. I'm sure the tires are shot, my plan is to take some tires & rims to get it, anybody have any idea what the lug pattern/measurements are?

Thanks in advance, Jim

Welcome Jim!

I can't think of a better way to get involved in vintage Airstreaming (or in any Airstream, for that matter) than to be given one. Give that person an extra big hug, because you've got yourself a really neat trailer! And the fact it's free will certainly go a long way to extending the spending you're about to embark on.

Photos will be the best way we can all help you determine what's original, what's replaced, and what's missing! You can decide along the way if you're going to keep it stock, or re-imagine it more to your personal tastes. I will say you're in a pretty small club with that model... so you'll find that many of us tend to give an extra pat on the back whenever somebody with an oldie like this retains the original features.

No matter what you choose to do with it, you'll find an unbelievable source of information here. I can't help you with your wheels question, but somebody will undoubtedly be along shortly who can.

Due to the year of this trailer and the fact it has been sitting for a very long time, I would place it on a trailer if you are going any distance! If it is close, then go find out what you need and work it from that angle!

Well Jim,

Although you won't be exactly "Airstreaming" you will have a VERY cool aluminum trailer. You may want to try Tom Patterson's Silver Streak site and post in the Vintage Kin section of this site. here's a link to To's site. Silver Streak entry page

It is most likely a 15" wheel w/6-lugs--the same pattern that the Airstreams have had for

many years---

Thanks, guys, we dug it out of the field it was in, the axle was about 4" in the mud. Got it up and pulled the wheels, found the hubs still turned, nice suprise. The belly pan is rusted only in the front, and the step inside the door is weak, but overall it is pretty good.

Airstream owners are fanatics!

One more question, is the VIN # on the Tag to the left of the door?
