Gary,

I get the Timken part next week. The SET49 was not a Timken part and only had SET49 printed on the box. I'll let you guys know what I find next week on the part from TrailerParts.com.

My trailerparts.com bearing should be here early next week as well. Since it is a dexter part#, I bet ti shows up in a plastic bag, with no markings. Like the last one I got years ago.

Well the saga continues. Not only is the bearing that TrailerParts.com sent NOT a Timken, but they sent me a 50mm bearing instead of a 42mm, even though the order and packing invoice clearly states the part # and description for a 42mm. Uggggggg!

What a hassle! Imagine how bad this would be if you were on the road. I guess you would have to take what ever you could get, to get moving and address all the issues when you got home.

I just checked my bearing play this week when I got new tires, I think I have about 16,000 miles on my 2014. Mine had no play at all, thank goodness!
I think you said earlier that you have never had your hubs off before (since 2007?), how many miles do you estimate you had before this one bearing suggested failure?

Thank you

I have a hubometer, so I know the miles. 58,900 at time of one bearing endplay. Other 3 have no discernible play at this time. But, I am still not convinced that water intrusion may not have contributed to the bearing failure. KEEP YOUR HOSE NOZZLE AWAY FROM THE BACKSIDE OF THE HUB/BRAKES. It's wide open back there.

Curious if there are other reputable bearing vendors (SKF, FAG, etc.) that have a compatible part besides Timkin? I drove 1000 miles to pick up a used ATC enclosed car hauler that also has Dexter axles; the only bearings available at the local trailer repair shop and ATC dealer were Chinese made ones. They said they are unable to source US-made bearings currently as well. I pick up my 2021 GT in 2 weeks and I want to buy some spares for the road just in case...

I don't know. I'm going to call timken again and ask if there is an outlet, other than rv and axle vendors, where we retail folks can source their product. Maybe a timken distributor.

The package delivery scheduled for yesterday is delayed. No new schedule. I'll let you know when it arrives.

Well, they shipped me the same wrong thing (50mm) same part number J5A8AA2, China made in a plain plastic bag.

Did TrailerParts.com pay for your return shipping?

Have you seen the "Dexter" part on Amazon? Says it is genunine Dexter. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...5I9ZUJ57&psc=1

I just ordered the genuine Dexter never lube bearing on Amazon. It also says that the bearing is made by Timken in the USA in the description. It is actually shipping from Brechbilltrailers.

Again, we'll see...

They haven't reimbursed anything yet. They said 100% refund, since they sent wrong part.
That amazon one is a different seller than the Amazon one I ordered. Let us know.

Ok, so here's the scoop from Timken. I was given 5 direct distributors names....cutting Dexter out of the middle man position......from whom we can procure the 42mm Timken bearing. They may not carry them in inventory, but can order direct and sell retail.

They are:

Summit Racing
Parts authority
(These two have a large internet presence and are national in scope)

Farm and Fleet
Tucker Rocky
Stone Wheel

(these 3 are local/regional to 60543, if you call Timken they can give you ones close to your location)

I am told by Stone Wheel that National # 513058 crosses over to Timken, but I am a bit leery.

I am not sure why this surprises me, but Summit Has it going on. I got a rep who knew his stuff and actually found the specific 90ue6 family member in the JRM 4249 family!!!! He called Timken while I was on hold and got all the info he needs and it jibes with what I have learned through this rabbit hole process
They currently do not have it in their online catalog (no search, etc.).

He wrote a "add to inventory" request/order. It will take some time for that to go through their verification and pricing process with Timken and he will contact me when it becomes live.

The Summit part # will be TMK-JRM4249-90UE6, However, again, it is not there now, so be patient. In addition, it is out of stock at Timken and their next run isn't till July, so be patient. I will update as I learn more.

BTW, Timken and National are the same company now.

Gary, Can you check the dimensions, just to be certain? OD = 2.325" ID = 1.6535 Width = 1.5354

Not really. There is the caliper mounting fixture, a space, and the backside of the hub, with about a 3/16" gap between the hub and axle shaft...exposing the rear of the bearing assembly and a path to the spindle. It's probably relatively effective in minimizing road splash, but not direct spray, like a drum setup.
