Loose rattling hub

One of the center hub dust covers in the middle of my wheels is loose and rattles when driving at slow speeds. Other than the noise, is this a potential problem, and what do I need to do to tighten it up?

I’d inspect the brakes before assuming a hub problem. Maybe simply remove the wheel then spin the drum. An annual drum-off brake inspection is a good idea.

If it's truly just the hub center cap, pull the wheel and put a wrap or two of electrical tape around the base of the center cap. If it's snug but still goes into the wheel without forcing it, you've got enough on there. If you want to get fancy, trim the tape down in width so it doesn't show when all installed.

Larger and wider rubber bands, 2 or 3, also work well.

That's clever - I'll have to remember it for when my tape needs replacing.
