1964 Airstream Bambi II with missing tires

Hello,
I'm thinking about purchasing a 1964 Bambi II. Unfortunately, the previous owners have it sitting on concert blocks and it's missing the wheels. The buyer is asked to tow out of the property. Can someone please help me determine which tires to buy for the trailer?

Also, the axels might not be in the best condition due to it sitting in one spot for 25 years. There are also some missing bolts where the tires go into place. Two missing on one side and one missing on the other side. I was thinking about just getting the tires on the trailer in order to roll it onto a flatbed for transportation. Do you guys think that the tires will sit in place with the missing bolts? I have a small portable welder that Could be brought along and I could temporarily weld some blots into place. What do you guys think?

Thankyou,
Megan

Don't pass up a Bambi II project. We love ours!

Your wheels will be 14" wheels with a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern.

Choose 14" ST or LT tires (we run Yokohama Supervan 356)...but you don't need anything too fancy to get the project home.

Keep the questions coming. We've been there, done that on the Bambi II scene.

Your idea to get the wheels on to roll it to a flatbed or equipment trailer for the ride home is a good one. You can likely roll it that far with three studs on that wheel.

You could also get the hub off and get new studs installed at a mechanic's shop.

We towed ours home on a deck-over equipment trailer because the A-frame was rotted where it came out from the trailer body.

The wheel well aluminum looks strange on this one. Like it was somehow crushed?

Keep us in the loop on your adventure.

Hello PA Bambi! I'm so excited because the previous owners managed to get some tires on the trailer! So I'll be able to roll it more easily onto the flatbed! I wanted to thankyou for your comments! I ended up closing the deal on the sale and can't wait to dig into this project!

Awesome news! Enjoy the process...don't rush it. Bambi IIs are great, small models to cut your teeth on for Airstream ownership.

Keep those questions coming...and welcome to the vintage Bambi club!
