1963 Soverign Twin. Running gear replacement

I have inherited my grandparents 1963 Soverign. It received heavy use from 1963 to 1977. It has been in dry storage since 1978. From what I read on the forums, it most likely needs replacement of axles, hubs, brakes, wheels, and of course tires. I have read that aluminum 16 inch wheels are preferable paired with Michelin tires? Any suggestions on which parts to buy here? I want to keep the trailer as original as possible. I want to paint the wheels and use baby Moon hubcaps.

Welcome to Air Forums.

The reason for owners moving to 16" rims in the past was to get a higher load capacity in available tires. However to understand what load capacity your trailer requires, you might weigh your trailer first. By each individual wheel position as the weight won't be the same on each corner. Weigh the trailer in a fully loaded "camping" weight. Liquids if you tow with liquids.

As of late Goodyear has changed their trailer tire such that greater capacity is now available on 15" tires. (Goodyear Endurance) You may find that you do not need to move to a larger rim using those tires.
