Apart from having the steering wheel on the other side our only-too-real testing included vehicles from passenger cars up to trailers of many tonne and towed by trucks of generally similar weight.

The major difference between most people posting on forums and mine is that I/we deliberately took the rigs over the limit such that trailers rolled over (but held by outriggers from destructing). From that, plus full instrumenting, we gathered a lot of data. Much similar testing is done to this day - enabling a lot of work being feasible without testing each and every time. I suspect nuclear weapon design is similar!

We experimented with WD-like devices but to this day they are not used in the EU or UK. Unlike OZ and the USA, Europeans do not attempt to tow anything that weighs more than that which tows it. Nor as fast.
