I understand your logic, however, at the time I picked up my 28', I was also on my 3rd Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch, after my last 2 25' AS's, with the smaller bars. I called the technical folks at Blue Ox and discussed same concerns in what size bars to get. My actual tongue weight at 1100lbs at that time. They recommended the 1500lb bars; next one down were the 1000# bars we had used with our previous 2 25's. They were very stiff (1500lb bars) when new 4 years ago, and could only get to 4.5 links showing. Towing was great, however at that time. AFter a year, I was able to get to 8 links, or 3.5 links showing (recommended by Blue Ox) and I am very happy with the control, feel, and ride. Could I have gotten by with 100lb bars? Likely, but these work very well, have a slight bow when hooked up, and unit is very stable. I run 58-60psi cold on my Endurance 15" tires, and get very good results all around. No popped rivets or other issues inside the AS now with 52K miles on her.... (no broken latches, open doors, cabinets loose, etc..) If I do have some issues, I can always call Collyn

During 1959/1960 I tested part of the suspension of the prototype M model Bedford by driving that part fitted to a QLR Bedford twice the full length of Africa including two Sahara crossings (a desert larger than the U.S.A.). The test was over 40,000 miles and took 18 months.

Along the way (in mid-Sahara) we had to remove the cylinder head and regrind the exhaust valves and their seatings. We exited the Sahara on the last of June 1960 - and it was the last vehicle ever to have made the crossing.

If interested Google Last Drive Across Africa. My colleague on the trip made a superb video of it that has over 6 million viewers to date.

And your experience?

I assume you are aware that the interaction between a snaking vehicle and a trailer has close to 30 independent and interdependent variables.

If you are into the related maths (I am not) they are Lagrangian-Hamiltonian double differential equations.

I have already provided my background): in essence a now over 60-year working life in this area (including writing and publishing books about it).

I am not seeking a reference but it is surely not unreasonable to ask how and on what you base the stuff you are posting about?

Hmmm, I'm just gonna say what a Buch of people are thinking on this thread...

When someone consistently cries "I am the expert! you should listen to me", It makes me wonder if they really are.

Usually, those who are experts in a field say their piece and then let you make your own decisions. No need to continually beat the "I am an expert" drum.

Education does not make an expert.

Wow this thread has really gone down the tubes.
And to keep it Airstream related, I'd say we're now in the blackwater tank.

Many of us here are thinking the same...(cept perhaps "one", I fear!) Time to move on for sure.

Gotta say, that advice sounds eerily similar to my son's overlanding advice...

Re: Education does not make an expert.

I totally agree. I left school when 10 years old - and never went back. Am what is known technically as autodidactic (self-taught).
