WD Hitch Advice Please

Using a WD system and the set up and leveling seem to be fine. Recently new to towing and I have towed my AS 4 times. Per the previous owner, I have hitched my AS to the TV and use the electric trailer jack to bring the TV close to level. I then connect the chains on the dist bars to the hooks and pull up and lock them in with no problem. When I lower the jack the TV drops 1 inch lower than unloaded and the trailer is close to perfect level. The trailer has towed like a dream with no issues. My problem is disconnecting. When lowering the dist bars to disconnect they release with such force that I have to let the bar go in fear of breaking a wrist. The handle bar obviously goes flying and it's a matter of time before it hurts someone or dents something. Seems like I am definitely doing something wrong and there should not be so much force when releasing the bars. I am using the jack to lift the TV up beforw releasing the bars. Any advice and help would be appreciated.

Try to lift the TV higher. There is a lot of pressure on those snap up brackets and that is what causes them to release so strongly when you unhitch. Also make sure you are still connected to the ball when you raise the jack to lift the rear end of the TV.

You will see the pressure come off the bars as you raise up the rear end of the TV. Once that chain loosens up on each side, you will find that you have a very controlled release of the brackets.

If you raise the front end high enough, you can operate the snap up brackets with your hands. No pipe needed.

All of the above works nicely. But just a thought. Don't ask how I know this. When you are hooking up and raising the trailer using the electric lift jack to relax the pressure on the WD bars MAKE SURE that the rear stabilizers have been raised. This is the sort of thing that we probably will only do one time. So if I can help you to avoid the learning experience I have done my job.
