Vibration dampening

What is the deal with vibration dampening hitches? Is this something I should consider upfront or is this something used to remedy a specific problem? I'm purchasing a Flying cloud 23FB and will tow it with a Durango or GLE 450.

Most, if not all, of these devices are not compatible with weight distribution hitches.

Welcome Aboard 👍

What has worked for us...don't buy anything until you have determined you NEED it.

For us, those hitches are just another "gizmo".
We have a 2500 Burb with a very compliant suspension unnecessary for us.👍
If you have a TV with a HD suspension...it's a choice.🥴

More important...don't 'over hitch' by getting higher rated weight distribution bars than you actually need.

Example...we have a tongue weight of 1200lb, we move a total of 720lb,(560 back to the Burb front axle, 160 back to the AS axles.) using 1000lb bars.

I have an AirSafe and it works with WD and it does make the connection a lot more smooth. If 1/2 ton truck, it's not necc, but 3/4 ton and above, it really makes a difference.

A Durango or GLE would not need a dampener as it's already a pretty smooth ride.

Agreed with others. Not necessary for a smooth riding tow vehicle. Especially for a passenger car type tow vehicle as you're proposing. These are really meant for oversprung tow vehicles such as HD 3/4 and 1-ton. Where they are using too much truck, and are carrying relatively too little payload, resulting in a jarring ride. I would worry about how the jarring ride effects the driver and passengers before the trailer

There's cons to using such a thing as they also tend to push the ball further rearward. Such that it minimizes effective wheelbase by decreasing the wheelbase to rear-overhang ratio. Worse for sway and porpoising.
