Thanks for the reply. Based on the link you posted for Atwood, it appears my coupler would be an 88007, 88555, 88010, or an 88600. These are all flip latches I guess? And, in general, a no go with the Anderson?

Yes Andersen says all the 88000 series are not compatible or some such verbage in the instructions.

Hey neighbor,
Too bad we're on the road to show you the coupler hitch setup, Gonna be on the road for about a month yet. Though must say that the Bay Area Airstream replaced the coupler and installed the Andersen for me. Email me if you want more details.

BTW, still luv the Andersen.

Saw your setup at Bay Area Airstream one day a month or so ago. Saw the Dodge and the cool Anderson hitch. I was amazing that it worked on a tow setup like that. Anyway, hope your trip is going well.

On the Ball

For your Bambi just tow it as is if you're considering any hitch other than the Andersen. Experience your Bambi as is before getting any of those bar type hitches. The TV's now a days are adequate for your Bambi. Any of those bar type hitches will require you to fine tune 'em precisely in order to avoid the bouncing, vibrating effect inherent in them. The only hitch that helps in the severe bouncing effect today is the Andersen. G'luck.

I will have a review on the Andersen from almost 2 months of travel when I get home.

Question Is this a fair deal?

I've been calling through the potential dealers in Atlanta and none that I've been able to find sell Andersen.

On eBay I found. Andersen 3380 No Sway Weight Distribution Hitch with 6" Drop Rise New in Box | eBay

I'm curious if this is a fair price and what is needed? I have a 2003 suburban 4x2 1500 and am about to go get my 1973 31' International.

I thought they were around $500 so I'm guessing that's a fair price. Anderson's site has a dealer locator if that helps: http://www.andersenhitches.com/dealerfinder.aspx

I have a Expedition and tow a 27FB. No amount of tightening would redistribute enough weight off the rear axle (according to the CAT scale). Eventually the brake material deformed and squeezed out. Its a good hitch otherwise if your weight distribution needs aren't significant.

This hitch could not distribute needed weight on our 25' Airstream either, among other issues, so we sent it back. It has worked okay for some small trailers (Casita, Scamp) with very light tongue loads.

Read this thread carefully noting among the reports of success, weight distribution is not one of them. For this reason there other good hitches to choose from that can easily do this basic and essential function.

I have commented on the issue of WD and the Andersen several times. The limit is not within the Andersen it is within the rear springs of the TV. The lighter sprung, soccer mom, vehicles do not have enough carrying capacity to act as a point of rotation for the Andersen to move the load to the front axle.

Several have tried to convince readers that the Andersen will only work with light trailers. I offer the fact that my 34 ft trailer does not fall into that description and works great with my Andersen.

A few months ago I attempted to use an Andersen on my daughters trailer behind a Suburban 1500, a vehicle with almost the same wheel base as my Excursion but with much lighter spring set. My option was to revert to the Reese for our trip or install a heaver rear spring set, GM offers several different spring sets for the Suburban. Had to use the Reese but will correct that before next season.

I would strongly suggest anyone towing with a Suburban check the rear axle code before installing an Andersen and if the code is for one of the lighter spring sets consider changing the rear springs. Yes that is getting pricey but if you want the superior characteristics of the Andersen it will be worth it.

Question

Tickets please...

All this talk, I never see tickets.

Soft springs preventing weight transfer....interesting thesis.

It is not a thesis it is seesaw 101. You can not transfer weight until you have reached the load limit of the point of rotation, the fulcrum, otherwise know as the rear axle.

For those who may still have a question of the trailer size limitation I would suggest you go to the first post in this tread and stop the video at 11 seconds. Study the TV and the size of the trailer in tow.

I would not go with heavier springs. I would and do use air bags.

From what I've noticed on this thread....the Anderson does not need to be set up the same way other hitches do.
You just need stiff springs and a teeter.

I prefer relying on weights or measurements.

Plus like me, it just looks dum...

Hi, OK for now, if I want one of these hitches, I will have to replace my trailer's coupler and replace my tow vehicle's rear springs. What next?

In 167 pages, there are many examples of actual users who really benefit from and enjoy the Andersen hitch. People with 1,200 pounds of tongue weight and 600 pounds of payload won't like the Andersen. Those who have the opposite are in for a great towing experience with the Andersen. (Yes, I am aware that Andersen overstates their products capabilities, but at least they don't show it towing the Space Shuttle.)

I am old enough to remember when the overhead valve engine was introduced. There were those that formed clubs promoting the "Flat Heads For Ever" and refused to accept the advancement in engine design. As with any advancement there will be those who don't understand it, refuse to accept it, insist it be judged by the old standards, and offer comments without experience.

The FHFE clubs, like the engines, were short lived, cased aside to be a collectors item, as the newer engines quickly cleaned there clocks in all areas.

If you see me on the road and want to experience the Andersen first hand don't be shy just ask. "12156"
