Shorten Hitch?

We picked up our FC 25 three days ago and are having a great time on our maiden voyage

Our dealer recommended a Husky Center Line and we've had no issues with its performance over the past few days. Upon inspecting the design, it appears to me that I can eliminate a good 2" of hitch length by drilling new holes for the clip. Anyone have any comments about how this will affect performance? It's appealing because it'll reduce tongue weight.

Thanks, Dave

Edit: I see that the pic is rotated 90 deg but I'm on an iPad and can't fix it

It won't reduce the tongue weight very much. It does shorten the lever arm of the tongue weight on the tow vehicle hitch. It also reduces the torque arm length that acts on the tow vehicle in a sway event and that stability improvement is quite valuable.

CanAm recommends this modification and regularly does it for rigs they set up.

The down side is that on some rigs, the ability to turn sharply is compromised. You should check out trailer to tow vehicle clearance closely.

Edit - if you do, drill small and ream to size. Make sure the hole is perpendicular to the side wall of the shank.

Travel safe. Pat
