Shank drop for 2020 F250 to 2021 GT21 for Equalizer

Hi all,

New member to the forums and to owning an Airstream.

I ordered a GT25 from Colonial. Due to COVID I'm not going to be picking it up, but have a transporter bring it to me in Texas. I'd like to go ahead and order the WD hitch but I am unsure which shank I should get. I think I'd like to use the Equal-i-zer 4 point.

The TV is a 2020 F250. Distance to the top of the inside of the 2.5" receiver is 22.5". The specs for the GT25 say the coupler height is 21".

Three questions:

1) Is the coupler height on the spec sheet accurate? I did opt for the second AC unit and I assume the modest weight difference shouldn't make a difference on the height.

2) Published tongue weight is 882. Should I go with the 10k/1k or the 12k/1.2k Equalizer? I read something about not ever going over the weight rated from equalizer, and I assume that my copy of the trailer might have a higher tongue weight than the specs, and that with loading I might occasionally get over 1000 for the tongue weight.

3) What drop shank should I get for the equalizer? I ran through their tool here: https://www.equalizerhitch.com/find-your-shank-size and it recommends 90-02-4325 which is a 2.5" shank with 6" drop. Wanted to see is anyone has a similar setup to me and can confirm that shank will work.

Thanks all!

Did you get this figured out?
I just changed my tow vehicle to a F250 tremor that has the 2 inch factory lift.
so my receiver height is 24.5 inches.
I have the 2021 27’ globetrotter and trying to figure out the same thing

The published coupler heights for a level trailer (top of ball) from Airstream are accurate and will be about 18 for standard suspension height and 21 for the 3 inch lifted (for more ground clearance) models.

You can figure your truck will drop 1-4 inches depending on springs, etc. Less with airbags, near 4 for off road springs. The shanks are all pretty much standard and most are interchangeable but the ball base heights relative to the shank bolts vary from one WD hitch to the other so you will have to follow the hitch manufacturer.

The nomenclature for drop/rise is that zero is where the ball base is at the same height as the top of the receiver slot. Ball heights can vary also but the standard ball is 3 1/4 from base to top.

My trailer is supposed to be at the dealer today. We've been delayed in the factory and then in transportation so I have still not seen the trailer. I did go ahead and buy the parts I mentioned and I should be able to post a followup with my learnings in 10-14 days.

Finally got my trailer. I used Fastway 90-02-4325 2-1/2" Adjustable Shank 6" drop/10 Rise x 12" Length (XL12) and I am in the top holes when configured for drop. I think that shank would work fine for you as well as your receiver top is only about 2 inches higher than mine.

Thread about my setup here: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f23...ch-215780.html
