Shank clearance

Hi
I have a 2015 grand Cherokee and a 16 sport. I have an equalizer hitch. In order to get the trailer level I have to use a shank that leaves only about 8 inches of ground clearance. Is this normal? I'm just wondering what others with the same setup have.

Thanks

Yes, I might even have a bit less on my JGC using a Blue Ox Sway Pro.

Do you have to use a long shank to lower the head to match the trailer tongue height? 8" is probably enough clearance unless you plan to tow on dirt roads to boondocking sites.

What shank are you using? The link shows all the 2" shanks available.

I don't really understand the numbers but it's the 9 inch drop actually 13 long. The second one down under the best sellers.

Have you had any issues with bottoming out?

Take it to a machine shop and have the bottom few inches cut off.

It will make contact coming in and out of my drive way if I do not raise the adjustable suspension on the Jeep. Also have to be careful at some gas stations and steep angle campgrounds.

I have the same issue. To get the Airstream level mine is close to the ground as well. Just completed a 4,200 trip we hit twice. I keep it in sport mode but you can raise it to off road 1 if you know you will be close. 2015 jgc 31' airstream.

I don't have the adjustable suspension. There is actually 7.5 inches of clearance. I spoke with equalizer and they said it's ok to cut off the access as long as you don't cut above the last unused hole. I have one hole unused. I can cut just about 1 inch off the shank.

Thanks. I assume the time you hit were at slow speeds and kinda expected?
