Reese Trunion WD System

We are evaluating moving up to a 23D; it has a Reese trunion WD system . Our TV (08 Expedition Limited w/ class III tow package) will require a WD system to accommodate the increased hitch weight. If you have a Reese system, what is your experience....easy to set-up and effective? WD would be new to us as we don't use one on our 19' Bambi.

Reese dual cam is my back up system. I ran it for a couple years prior to getting my Hensley. Over the years, I have also used an EQ, as well as a draw-tite. Reese is my #2 favorite.

Have been using the Reese Duel Cam set up for the past 9 yrs. with no problems what so ever. I did change out the 1,000 lbs. (to rough on some roads) for 800 ones and that made a big difference in smoothness (even though our tongue weight is just over 1,000 lbs.). Once you get it dialed in, you're good to go. I did mark each bar RT and Left to always use the correct bar. I have been very happy using this set up

There is more than one type of Reese hitch that has trunnions. I've used the trunnion system for the last 25+ years, on several different Airstream trailers. I think it is a good system, stronger than those bent bars.

I have had the snap up bracket type with a separate friction sway control. I use this system on both my 25' and my 34' now. I like this system.

I have also had the dual cam system. I did not like it.

The only WD hitch I've ever used has been Reese systems. I have both the old style and new style dual cam with built in sway control and they do exactly what they are supposed to do. I can attest to the system keeping the trailer in a straight line, or putting it back into a straight line. When I set up the new hitch on my 30' Bunk my adjustment was slightly off, which actually caused the trailer to sway. This wasn't noticed upon my initial adjustment, but once I got on the interstate and up to speed you could feel the trailer being pulled from one side to the other. A final adjustment of the saddles completely cured the sway.
Its a nice simple system and can quickly and easily be hooked up.

We have a Reese duel cam , it does a good job with our 31' classic, I like it better than the high dollar hitch that was on our old classic...

Isn't a class 3 receiver only rated at 6000 pounds trailer weight? You might be overloaded.

I started using Reese dual cam hitch 39 yrs. ago, still using original purchase. Would not consider any other brand or type of hitch

I have used the Reese Dual Cam Straight Line hitch for 10 years now on my 25'. I like the hitch. If it comes with the trailer you certainly ought to try it. It will take some reading of the manual and a little adjusting to get the right weight transfer and adjustment. Will be an easy afternoon and you will learn a lot about WD and hitches that you need to know no matter what hitch you end up with. I do not find that the Reese is sensitive to adjustment. Once I got mine set up it never has needed adjustment. That may be because I pull with a 2500 that is not the least bit sensitive to how much load is in it.

Thanks to all for your responses. My current tongue weight limit is 600. Hitch weight of the 23D is 720. My TV specs indicate I can go to 910 with a WD system, so I should be OK, though I would never be able to carry a full load of water. Thanks again!

A basic Reese Trunion system does not include Dual-Cams. If you don't have the cams, add them as these are needed to control sway. The basic system is only for weight distribution.

Here is a link to the cams:

I have a Reese Dual Cam hitch for sale in Ontario.
It's been used three times and didn't work for me. So..
I went back to the EZE hitch with the Friction bars that Andy installed. It works for me.
The Reese kit is complete and ready to install.
Cost me $1000 plus tax. Make me a reasonable offer.

I use the trunion system described above on my '97 31' classic. Simple, easy to set up and hitching up is a snap.(excuse the pun)

We use the Reese Strait Line WD hitch with dual cam sway control with 1,000# bars. We're on our 3rd coach, and it has served us well. We had to use a shank with a deeper drop to level the coach, but once dialed in (it took several iterations) it works great. In addition to Rancho shocks, we have Firestone 500# air bags to add stiffness to our Armada's suspension.
