Thumbs up

[QUOTE=Jaxon;2235956].
Am curious... are you new to towing & Airstreaming or are you just an innate expert in everything? Just wondering why, after just two months on the forums, you insist on being so antagonistic and argumentative with folks who obviously are much better informed and experienced...

Perhaps you're just trying to hit 200 posts today and enjoy stirring the pot?[/QUOTE

Size is not the answer.

And if it's stopping power you need (we all do), get a stout German SUV with real brakes.
If it's a substantial chassis that is important, get a stout unibody (like used on 747's) - which would send you back to a German SUV.
If it's the ability to avoid a surprise obstacle on the road - ditch the WW1 chassis and get a tow vehicle with a modern suspension.

And just to follow on a theme - can you explain why a recent trip in very windy conditions in Windy Kansas, ALL the tow vehicles blown over on their sides were 3/4 and 1 Ton pickups?

My takeaway - it's setup and loading that are MUCH more important than "which hitch" or "which TV," as long as you respect capacities.

To go a bit further, the more you weigh, the more the contact patch makes a difference. I like the patch-to-weight ratio of (you guessed it) a stout Euro SUV.

Too many folks think size is the answer, but it can give a false sense of security. (A van is a big improvement over the same sized pickup because the body gives the floppy ladder frame a modicum of strength.)

However, if you carry a bunch of "stuff," then you are stuck with a big TV - just be aware of its very real deficiencies.

And back to the Hitch question - perhaps the Propride can somewhat offset the long rear overhangs that are inherent in pickups, but I'd rather pull with something physics says will give me a leg up in the stability department. A Euro SUV.

Got it bro, you're knowledge is beyond reproach.

Yep. Using your logic, I quit wearing my glasses because they made me think I could see okay, and quit wearing a belt because it made me think my trousers would stay up.

.
What 26K lb vehicle were you towing with? Just curious.
By the way, most pickups really don’t have that much of an overhang when compared to wheelbase.

I don't have an AS yet (soon hopefully) so I read these forums to learn. Maybe 10% of this thread was helpful. The rest made me feel like I was back in jr high school with all the sniping and juvenile insults. Really? What a waste of time.

You boys need to take this silliness off-line and meet up somewhere in person to settle it. We don't need your squabbling on this website, whether you're a "supporting member" or not.

Silly is good...some take this much too seriously.

Don't sway? I know a couple who lost their Airstream and tow vehicle due to sway. There is nothing special about an Airstream that defies the physics of sway.

Please don’t view this as typical of AS owners. If you go to a rally you’ll see that almost all the folks you meet are nice people.... and pretty level headed.

There’s good info to be had on this forum but like everything else online you have to sift through the clutter.

Agree- there are lots of great experiences and information on these threads...It's sad that there are also a few "trolls" who enjoy spewing inaccurate data with the intent of starting an argument..

X2! Online personalities can morph from time to time - much more aggressive and less sociable than in live settings - things one would never dream of throwing in another’s face at a live gathering sometimes seem to be “fair game” on social(? anti-social?) media sites....maybe related to a lack of human interaction signals & cues that happen when you’re in the same physical space....

In online forums you can usually block people you don’t want to hear any more from. I’m confident in assuming I’ve been blocked from time to time - that’s ok. It’s the digital version of avoiding someone at a rally when they rub you the wrong way [emoji3]

We’re all an acquired taste I suppose....

Camp on!
