New coupler

Hey all. Just returning from our first camping trip with our new 2020 Bambi 22FB. We couldn’t be more pleased with it. We had a blast. Question for you. I have the new coupler. Had a tough time getting it to snap properly once the ball was in place. Oddly enough, it worked fine when I tried the coupler lock ball but with my actual tow ball, even though it was perfectly seated, it pop out. I finally got it to snap properly but it took a few attempts. Is it broken or is there a technique I’m missing. See photos. Any info appreciated. Click image for larger version

You gotta make sure the ball is forward in the coupler. If there is any pressure to the rear the latch will not seat.

P.S. Congratulations!
Also nice photos. Anytime you can post photos it helps.

Apply grease to ball, possibly include a wipe down inside coupler too.

Funny. Rented an Airstream before buying ours and I kept making sure the ball had sufficient grease. We buy our own and forget to do it! I’ll chalk it up to delivery day / first outing excitement!

Regardless, good advice. By wipe down inside coupler you mean applying grease here as well?

Steve,

The coupler has some moving parts, metal on metal. Little bit of lube might make things move easier.

The coupler on my '07 is original and I checked it has no service kit. I apply ordinary wheel bearing grease to the ball and some has transferred to the latch. I wipe the ball off and the inside of the coupling prior to connecting. A light grease film beats metal on metal.

Others may/will have different opinions.

Gary
