Hitch Zerk Size

Does anyone know the zert size that attaches to the hitch? I have a 2002 Classic 30 s/o that has a zert to apply grease to the ball when attached. I put my grease gun on it the other day and when i went to remove it, it was stuck and when I yanked it with considerable force, it pulled off... The thread in the hitch seems okay but the zert is toast. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

I doubt if it is original.

There are only three sizes of zerks in widespread use. There's the press-in, the 1/4"-28 threads, and the 1/8" tapered pipe thread. The 1/8" pipe thread ones are larger than the 1/4"-28 ones. If it pulled out, it's probably one of the press-in ones, and you'd be better off drilling out the hole and tapping it with a 1/4"-28 and then using a matching zerk.

hi jsam'

jammers correct, no zerk is NORMAL on the a/s cup.

so some1 added this to your trailer.

given how infrequently and how easy greasen' the ball is...

no zerk is needed

also this doesn't make CLEANING the cup easier.

we've discussed this in other threads...

read 5 posts (#222-226) here...

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f464...tml#post373316

last post has a PHOTO with zerk added.

the problem is, NOW the cups gotta HOLE in it.

so either PLUG it or tap/thread correctly and add another zerk.
________

the lectric screw stab/jacks on your unit may have ZERKS for lubn (mine sure do)

so pick one the SAME SIZE and the grease gun tip does multi duty.

cheers

Uh, 2air, there's only one size for the end of the zerk that fits into the collet on the grease gun.

right jammer...

so the tap/thread diameter, taper, shape, general size, orientation for the HOLE all vary...

but the nipples are basically all the same size?

cool!

Zerk Fittings / Grease Fittings

now if there was just a multiple tube hose octopus thing connected to all the zerks ...

that could run to ALL the fittings (jacks, ball, spring bars) with ONE common attachment...

i could grease ALL locations at the same time...

chees

If you wanted to go domestic, I understand that Duesenberg also allowed the driver to lube everything but the universal joints. Seems that even they couldn't figure a way to get to the spinning u-joints in the drive shaft.
