We can put someone into the commonly high crosswinds around here with a 5'er at any road speed chosen. And induce a maneuver that'll have Mario Andretti into a rollover, immediately . . that the 28' would hardly notice. A
maneuver that hardly rates as one otherwise.
5'ers are about good enough -- in perfect conditions -- to get from here to there. High COG, lousy suspension, the worst sort of aerodynamic resistance. The amount of sail area alone makes them undesirable -- leaning over and using up what little suspension travel they have -- and even the best suspension & brakes aren't enough to correct an otherwise flawed concept.
When in doubt, park it . . meanwhile the rest of us will continue down the road. The reason in owning a decently designed trailer is to minimize risk while traveling . . not, like a 5'er, to
increase it.
For those that gotta have the fake fireplace and pair of barcaloungers plus four slides, have at it. But the drawbacks are too significant while on the road to not take a very long look at the tradeoff.
