Hitch height

Hello Everyone: I am new to the A/S world. I have been in the m/h world until my health caught up with me. LOL
Are you able to tell me the approximate hitch height for a 1998 34 ft. A/S?
I am in the process of buying the HEAVY DUTY 2 5/16 ball & ball mount bar for my 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax e/c 4X4 truck.
My hitch on the truck measures 19 1/8 to the centerline of the 2 1/2 receiver.
I am thinking that I need a ball mount bar with a 2 inch drop. Please set me straight.
Thanks, Tom Dunlap Cheboygan, MI

A bit hard to say teedunlap. If the axles have gone the hitch height drops. Usually it is about 19.5 to 21 inches to the top of the inside of the coupler. But it can go lower.

Here is the link to the factory specifications for hitch ball height for various model and year Airstreams. http://www.airstream.com/files/libra...c5c1005fbf.pdf Like the previous poster said the hitch height to make the trailer level will drop, if the axles have taken a set. The measurements given are a good starting point. You can actually take a measurement of your unit fairly easily, if you can park it on a dead level parking lot unattached from the truck.

Don't forget the back of the truck will probably drop some from the empty height once you add cargo and tongue weight.

Does not apply to vehicles that have self leveling.
