I intend to install a good new anti-sway setup on my TV when the time comes but right now just I am in the process of rebuilding the trailer and must need to find out if there is any reason to retain this bit of anti-sway hardware on my '65 Caravel. Appreciate any input.
All you need on a Caravel is the anti sway. There is not any weight leveling involved if your using an appropriate tow vehicle. Sway units cost about 45.00 ...yours is not worth the time to clean it up. Love those Caravels!!

We use one of those in somewhat better condition with our Overlander, it is an inexpensive, old-school sway control.

Thanks. So I presume somewhere there is a small ball that bolts onto the TV and mates to the socket on the end of the bar with a cross pin to hold it (I see a hole for the pin). Would that part be readily available somewhere? I will clean this up and paint it then.
That's the same type we use on our caravel. The hitch head has the little ball next to the big ball, which the other end of the friction sway control mounts to. I'm with Melody though, don't bother cleaning that one up, just go buy a new one. That thing looks nasty! Might give you a little more friction than you need. Can you get it to slide in and out at all?
I got it apart and right it is far gone. I'll get it off on weld/torch day. Ordered a new axle from Inland RV this morning. 2.5 weeks. If that POR-15 prevents rust like it stains your fingers it is really good stuff. Going with exterior plywood with Dr. Rot treated edges for the subfloor. Anyone here have a Carvel customized woth a rear bed?
