Found a Nice Couple Lock at a Local Business
After a long search, I think I found a really nice coupler lock at a local key and safe business. In all my years of searching I have never come across one one quite like this.

I need a new keyboard ... not a Couple Lock ... but a Coupler Lock. Honestly ... I'm really not as stupid as my keyboard keeps portraying me to be.

We use this on our boat trailer, works nicely. On the Airstream, we use a Mega Hitch, a gift from the dealer.

Found a Nice Couple Lock at a Local Business
Might be fun to review the famous Megahitch coupler lock-busting video before choosing that one. There's a similar one in this video at 1:45. BTW, we use the California Immobilizer coupler lock, which seems good. If we ever get sick of it, we'll take a closer look at MegaHitch.

I bought one of these a few years ago for our 1979 but it doesn't fit. The metal at the base of the coupler on the trailer curves up to the outside and the locking mechanism is too close to the lock base to fit over that metal. I used it on a boat trailer and it works great. Just wanted to post this so you can check that measurement before purchasing.

Am I correct in seeing this as a lock to keep your trailer from being stolen?

Yes, that would be the plan.
We use a California Immobilizer coupler lock as noted above, a locking pin on the coupler release latch, and a padlock through the safety chains to make it difficult to use them. It's all about making it enough of a pain in the backside to steal our trailer that they will go find something else to do.
After that, I guess we depend on our insurance, hoping it won't be needed.

When I have lost the key to the lock I have found that an 8 lb. sledge hammer with repeated blows carefully placed will destroy most locks. I now keep an extra key on a spare key ring to reduce lock purchases. Your lock looks very nice, but a bad guy won't mind hitting it a few times right on the locking mechanism. It might hold up...or not...so get Agreed Value insurance and the lock may deter all but the most determined.

Yep, we have full replacement insurance until Rocinante is 5 years old. At that point, we'll seek out a good agreed value policy.
