Everything wears and eventually wears out. Especially metal on metal and under that kind of pressure.

I have a new Equalizer and it was next to impossible to remove the sockets since they were so tight. I was afraid if removed I would never get them back in.

QUOTE=paiceman;1760821]Bob: I take the head on our Equalizer apart at the end of each season. I see no wear on it and I only grease it because I think it must need to be done. The noise is an issue, but I close the windows. We do about 10,000-15,000 each year.

I also carry all kinds of tools, torque wrench for the wheels as well as the hitch and an extra ball as the one Equalizer uses is somewhat odd in it's very short shank.

Thanks Bud. Thanks for the feedback & experience. We're new and this was our maiden voyage (2500 miles).

Ours did show a bit of wear that I contribute to grit that I missed and didn't remove as well as not being as diligent on getting the grease in all the places it needed to be on the head. I only removed the two sockets for the cleaning and I'm expecting a bit of closer attention on the road will spread out the dis-assembly times. The noise for us isn't that bad and like you said...the windows do go up.

happy trails,

Bob

This thread is an encyclopedia of info. Our dealer also recommends the Equalizer hitch.

Help -Frame Brackets shifting Equalizer hitch

I have the 1000 lb. bars on my 27 FB for 3 years using the same truck and just lately am experiencing a shift in the L brackets on the frame approx.. 1/2" shift forward.
I went to a RV shop the other day and had them realigned and tighten. That night I left the truck hitched while staying one night with the bars hooked up . Lifted the truck approx. 6" to level . This morning I see the damn brackets had shifted again.
Could it be leaving the rig hitched and elevated made the brackets to shift ?
Should I have freed the bars before leveling the trailer ?
I have lifted the rig in the past on one night stay overs without any problems , and carry the same loads .

Keep tightening...
Get equal-i-zer to send new L-brackets or link plates.
Put a piece of drywall sandpaper between the trailer frame rail and L-bracket and then tighten with all you got.
The L-brackets will eventually stop moving around on you.
Also, make the L-brackets match the exact angle of the weight bars. If the L-bracket is at one angle and the weight bars are at another angle, the weight bars will win. The weight bars will push on the L-brackets until the angle matches.

I can vouch for the drywall sandpaper trick. I used a little 3M spray adhesive to glue on the sandpaper. My brackets haven't budged. I check the torque with my torque wrench every year and are level with the bars. I also use the Bracket Jackets on my L bars. I keep the head and the ball lubed up.

Are you using the friction pads on the brackets for the bars?

Totally agree. The best bang for the buck. We were a one-man-band until I got some of those. For us, it doesn't affect the anti-sway or the WD. It is much, much quieter now.

I did the jackets on mine and it did nothing for the noise I was getting. See the attached video for the noise WITH the brackets. I was told I had to grease the pivot points. Will test that next time.

Fcstreamer,

I know why it didn't quiet things down, that Cady TV is way too quiet. Tow with a Cummins and you won't hear the bars squeakin!

Happy Friday.

The noise in in the moving/rotating parts of the hitch head.
Grease every moving part liberally with bearing grease and grease the ball.
She'll pipe down.

You have to periodically loosen the bolts in the pivot points for the spring arms, grease and torque. Even so, they will squeak after a day's drive. The pads will stop the noise only for the spring arms in the L brackets. Like M. Hony, I liberally grease the ball. I put a paper or plastic cup over the head to prevent grease from escaping onto my pants or leg.

Yep, we totally recognize that sound. It's about 50% of the way to 😱

If you grease the pivot points and the hitch ball head, that sound will go away. If you do that treatment regularly, the sound will stay gone.

Try a Kirkland water bottle from I think it's the 48 pack. Properly cut there is a ridge that will hold it on the ball when not towing. I stick it in with the propane tanks for travel.

Hi, go back to page one and post thirteen. My extra bolt and copper pipe modification has never slipped.

Hi, remove the spring bar sockets, clean everything, and re-grease. Trying to get grease in there without taking the hitch apart is almost useless.
