Hitch simple

Since I mostly use my TV to pull the AS I leave the hitch on the truck. I also have Rock Tamers which make it worse. I have a hitch carrier as described above to use in the rare occasion to remove it. I never remove the springbars, just pull the pins and slide them back on the frame bracket till they balance and leave them on the hitch.

I have an Equalized hitch attached to an AirSafe. Total weight approximately 100#. I use a Harbor Freight $99 transmission jack. I slide the jack under the hitch, raise the jack, secure the ratchet strap and pul the hitch out of the receiver. It stay on the 4 wheel jack until needed again. It works the best when when the TT and TV are on the same plane. No lifting needed.

Although they cost more, Hensley and PrpPride hiches stay on the trailer. No back pain. If you choose to leave the stinger in the reciever when you unhitch, just fasten a mini traffic cone over it as in post 15.

Happy to sell you a spare. I found it's anti sway weak and weight distribution virtually worthless on my classic 33 (barely a quarter inch change on the front fender regardless how tight you screwed the bolts). But it is I indeed a lightweight. Regretfully purchased one week before the Arches story came out. He needs to be fined and jailed per the law. (Equalizer works great. Patrick at Colonial was right about that. )

Sorry but every dollar is a vote.
The owner did wrong by every possible metric so YES, we beat on him. There is simply no excuse for what he did. He can defend himself quite easily by responding here and elsewhere where his customer base resides.

To say I can’t vote with my dollars because someone else is doing something wrong is a defeatist, zero sum mindset. I will deal with each issue I confront in the best way available to me. There is nothing I can do about big Pharmaceutical but vote wisely. I can take action over other things through donations and proactive efforts. Everything in its time and place. There is truly a season for all things.....

I don't take the bars off
I unhook the trailer from the ball as usual raising the tongue to clear tha ball then ease the hitch head out of the receiver as far as it will go. Then advance the TV and ease it out some more. When I can get the hitch clear of the receiver I left it into the tongue and snap the clip down to capture the hitch on the tongue. Saves lifting the hitch and lighter since the bars take some of the weight. You have to undo the chains and hang them off the full length to take pressure of the bars. Also need to raise or lower the tongue to give some slack when easing the hitch out of the receiver. I developed this procedure when I lost my Hensley.

Beware of the pickup truck bed mounted crane/hoist.
it should be obvious, but if you do not attach it to a frame member (or have an additional support plate installed under your mounting point, it will only be a matter of time before you torque the hoist base out of your truck bed - not pretty.

I used Reese Dual-Cams for thirty years. I switched to Anderson for my last TT. I'll never have another Reese, Equalizer, or other heavy hitch. I'm an Anderson fan. They're brilliantly designed, and work as advertised. No grease, light weight, no squeaks...

And no, I have no affiliation with them. They have just designed a better mousetrap.

We made a carrying/support tray with handles to help in wrestling the 58 lb Blue Ox with 2½" stinger from the truck bed to the receiver.

Make Your Own Hitch Handle

I have had one of these hitch handles for each one of the five Airstreams we have owned. Since every Airstream has always been "the last GD Airstream we will every buy" the hitch handle has always conveyed with the hitch which has always conveyed with the Airstream. Fortunately, you can fabricate one of these in about an hour.

This solution does not help with the weight much but it does help with distance to move the hitch for storage. I too use a Hitchgrip to do this.

Hernia Requires Drastic Measures

No more lifting hernia causing weights. I had an overhead winch installed in my Truck port/garage which didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I had help with the install but now, I can whip the hitch out after tying a strap to it by just pressing a button. The hitch can get lowered to a dolly then rolled away. I also use the winch to raise and lower a generator into and out of the bed of the pickup. It’s been nice to have.

My solution does not cost very much...put a rope thru the lowest hole and use a 6 inch piece of plastic 3/4 " pipe for a handle... tie a knot. Stays on forever.

I made a bracket to hold the Hensley stinger under the a-frame. It wasn't so much a problem of lifting it, but wanting a place to put it out of the way and off the ground. It looks like you could hit your shins on it, but in reality you'd really have to try! I can lock it by putting the pin through if I feel the need.

Thumbs up Wagon Makes For East Hitch Handling

We use a second-hand Radio Flyer kid's wagon with the wooden guard rails removed. It makes for easy maneuvering and the best part is, it's the right height for the tow vehicle.

Have been following this thread closely as I also need to find a good way to install/remove/move the TV Equalizer head without lifting.

Still recovering from abdominal wall reconstruction on 6/18. Doc said recovery could be up to a year. I can’t do it again.

Maybe I should just get a Hensley or ProPride and let the electric hitch lift and TV do all the lifting/positioning?
