"coupler latch pin size" (help please)

Hi, I'm not near my trailer and I'm wondering if someone would help me determine the exact pin size for the coupler latch. Some of you may have a bolt with a nut in here.

I need the DIAMETER and the WIDTH SPAN.

Do you think [7/16" Dia x 5/8" Span] will fit? Or, should I opt for something more like [1/4" Dia x 1" Span]?

The company LifeLong Lock offers several sizes.

I'm shopping for this lock, and I want to make sure it fits.

This is machined from solid stainless steel billet. I think it would be a nice addition for anyone's trailer. It would also be a theft prevention measure for your Hensley or ProPride hitch.

(Call me a dummy, I didn't have my Hensley hitch locked to the coupler for the past few years. Until very recently, I didn't bother to investigate how it was attached to my A-frame. It was surprising to find out how easy it was to unbolt and remove the whole assembly.)

That looks like a Lifelong Lock ... I've got both their receiver lock and hitch coupler lock (keyed alike), and they seem like good products ... no complaints so far after a couple of years of pretty hard use. They have receiver locks for Class V hitches, which I have otherwise had a hard time finding. www.lifelonglocks.com

5/8" diameter pin, or 1/4" diameter pin?

I lock my coupler with a 1/4" bolt and a locknut. I do not believe that a 7/16" fastner or shackle would fit. In fact, I don't believe 5/16" will fit unless you enlarge the hole. I'm not sure of the span, but it's less than an inch.

Pretty sure but without measuring Id go with 1/4. I know 5/8's is to big. I run my lock when hooked up also. Just a little piece of mind,you never know that some minds would think it would be funny to unlatched your pin lock and then have you drive off,coming unhitched somewhere down the road.

while the haha does remove easily, most crooks aren't gonna take the trouble to do that.

they'll move to easier pickins or just use a big chain to drag the stream away.

in practice the haha DID prevent the theft of my trailer...

and i rolled up in the truck WHILE they were trying to sort out the hitch, no foolin'.

i too use a small coupler lock and the PP is a lot more effort to remove than a haha...

but IF really concerned about the trailer walking off, get a denver boot type device...

or lojack type tracker...

or both.

Now I know, I need the one that is 1/4" diameter.

The remaining question is which span to order; 1" span or 5/8" span?

I believe 2air is referring to an episode involving an attempt by a dealer to take possession of his traylah in order to gain leverage in a dispute over the payment for warranty repairs. While dramatic, it wasn't a matter of Thieves being caught Red Handed, stricto sensu.
