I had read about CANAM RV being really good at adjusting your Airstream to your truck. So I took a chance and wrote to them and sent a picture of how I looked hooked up. He wrote back this morning and gave me his advice.

What did you make of Andy's advice?

well, having just read it, I clipped it and will print that out, and will take it to the trailer/rv people here in town. The owner is a firechief here...but otherwise I was sharing this to get you guys/ gals opinions.

Billy,

The advise is right on, get the trailer and TV level when hooked up with WD bars set.

Based on the photo, it appears you do not have an anti-sway setup which you should have for trailers over 20' if memory is correct, no torsion setup, front is to high and maybe even in need of new axles unless they have been replaced over the past few years.

Enjoy,

Yep, go with Andy's advice and don't look back. You might be surprised at how much your ride/handling improves.

I think his advice is spot on, especially as what he's recommending is exactly what he's done for me.

Personally I'd use a weight distributing system and sway control whatever trailer I was towing, big or small.

If you dont need your overload (helper) springs you can remove them. Overload springs usually only add 500# capacity anyway.

I plan to print out the reply from him and just flat out take it to a trailer place here in town...as I continue to remove all the bugs of doubt with our towing set up. Thankyou for the positive feed back...I am learning all this as I go from one day to the next.

Coincidentally I talked to Andy today about my new TV and he spent 10 minutes providing me all the information needed. He knew the specifics of my combination and told me how great the TV would work with my 28' International. He provided the information without any expectation that I would be making the long tow to Can Am but I'm now inclined to work a trip in up there in conjunction with a long anticipated trip to the Michigan U-P.

I have never owned a Dodge...the truck in the photo is a 1996 Ford XL 250 with a 5.8. And a draw tite tow package, along with a tekonsha brake control.

No, still got the Dodge...wouldn't part with my Cummings. New TV is replacing another vehicle and will tow the AS when we're fairly close to home and wife needs to do some running around on her own. Getting a ML350 Bluetec...Andy gave me some great advice.

Ya I have been there, I emailed the info email address and didn't hear anything. My question is pretty technical and would like Andy to consider if possible. I just see comments like this but can never find an email for the man!
