Looking for direction on what receiver to put on my 2018 xdrive 35i X5. The
Caravel will have a dry weight of about 4200 lbs with solar and awning packages. GVWR of 5,000. The X5 is rated for 6,000 lbs and 600 tongue weight. I've looked at Drawtite and Curt, great hitches at a reasonable cost. I intend to use a Curt Echo wireless controller. Ive also looked at BMW dealer hitch ($3k) and an Invisihitch ( pricier than the Drawtite and Curt but rated at 7700 lbs, way above the vehicle tow rate. I like this one because it is sturdy and like the factory hitch, the receiver can be removed. However it says not rated for WD, not designed for the added pressure WD's put on the receiver.
I'm wondering if I even need a WD as the BMW has stability control and is a good tow vehicle. Would appreciate any similar set up feedback. My trailer doesn't come in till February, due to the back up in production at Airstream and of course the high demand. I had a 27ft Intl I pulled with a diesel Touareg but VW pretty much gave me what I paid for that car, I used a Henley hitch with that and had it reinforced at Can AM. I would let them do the set up on this one if I knew I could get up there. That's my story, any feedback appreciated, I've got plenty of time to make this decision.
