A suggestion, expand your search targets. I know I posted this somewhere here but look closely at the pic on their home page, see all the couplers? Ask them if they or other similar companies have a dusty repair kit on a forgotten shelf or ask if they have the same complete new coupler and take parts from that to repair yours. I perused their parts inventory a few years back and they have a lot of TRAILER supplies but they are not an RV dealer.

Similar shops exist elsewhere.

LOL

Once you add WD bars and tension, that tongue won't pop off for anything short of a catastrophic failure of something far worse, and then a loose coupler fork is the least of your problems ..... Just sayin.

Maybe, but mine still doesn't close without a considerable fight. I think it was defective when installed and now there are no parts to fix it. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, Airstream does when I am able to get my trailer in for warranty service.

Cut my coupler off and have some guy from "Bubba's Welding" tack a new one on?
Then throw away the $300 Proven Industries Lock?
Ain't gonna happen.
Mine works fine, I learned to keep it lubed, and I'm moving on.

Gary

Just got off the phone with them, they don't do anything with coupler repair kits....they cut it off and strap on a new one.....so that particular door is closed.

DCPAS,

I didn't see any other post from you in this thread, maybe I've missed other thread posts.

Suggestion. Use a trailer ball only, nothing else to make it difficult and insert it into your coupler. Then hold in place and latch. Does it latch correctly or still fighting it?

If it latches easily on ball in hand only, doesn't sound like a coupler problem.

Gary

My thoughts exactly....I'm thinking down the road....of the what ifs. We have zero intention of ever selling and will be with us until we pass it down...so it is kind of important to find a solution for the just in cases.

Well you tried.

They are a fabrication shop and replacing the entire coupler may be their best customer satisfaction solution.

Atwood Coupler Repair kit No Longer Available

My ProPride system gets uncoupled only once a year to clean and then grease the ball. No wear to speak of.

Thank you, Gary. This thread is the one discussing my frustration: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f46...ng-206498.html.

No matter what I do, the latch rarely goes into full closed position (meaning that the pin holes line up when I close the latch) without additional effort. The aft piece that moves forward and which is meant to go under the ball just hits the ball. My favorite method of late is to lower the latch (with the pin holes not lining up), have the trailer wheels chocked, and move the truck forward fairly aggressively. That seems to work, but it shouldn't be necessary.

My car hauler has a Bulldog. It is easier and seems more secure. Not sure why they aren't used on travel trailers.

I am not sure what parts or what Atwood coupler you have but
Etrailer has a kit for a 2 5/16" Marvel coupler.

Atwood discontinued Coupler parts

Airstream Inc. should pick up the slack and make a parts kit available to owners of our trailers.
Let me think, wouldn't that be the honorable thing to do?

We should keep this thread going to make more owners aware of what is or not been done by Airstream. Torching off a coupler and welding a new unit in is not a viable solution when all is needed are parts

You just described the real problem with this design. It's not adjustable so if it is not right from the beginning, it is hard to make it work, but i can tell you, the problem is not the fork in the no longer available repair kit. If you are handy, you can tweak it and get it to work better, if not cut it off and get something more forgiving. Like an EZ hitch.

Possibly some helpful Atwood Hardware part number info here. See pages 2-5.

https://myrvworks.com/wp-content/upl...wareManual.pdf

From Darren at My RV Works resource docs. He has complied many appliance and hardware manuals for RV's on his site. Searchable by manufacturer and type.

If my Atwood 81912 coupler is ever damaged, it's weld on R&R time AFAIK at this time. No Atwood repair kit is listed. All the more reason to connect carefully and get things aligned PRIOR to hitting the switch.

This thread makes me glad I bought a kit a few years ago. It's still in the package hanging in the garage.
