AirSafe vs. Gen-Y Hitch

I know this is going to be like asking what’s the best TV but has anyone used the Gen-Y torsion flex “Boss” receiver? I have seen the positive comments on the AirSafe hitches but the company looks sketchy, can’t contact them on the phone, and double the price of the Gen-Y hitch. Feedback appreciated.

I have had my AirSafe hitch now for about 14 years. Product does work as advertised. It does push back the trailer about another foot or so away from the axle, but if you have more than a 1/2 truck, you and your Airstream will thank you for it!

Never heard of Gen-Y torsion flex “Boss” receiver before, but looks nice and is much less than the AirSafe.

Thanks very much for the reply. I guess either not many have the Gen-Y torsion flex Boss hitch. I was told by the East Coast Distributor for AirSafe that they moved to another building 50 miles away from where they were in ND. Still very uneasy about the lack of support for such an expensive hitch. Gen-Y although different setup, seems to have great support and very reputable. Google search for Air Hitch Technologies (AirSafe) turns up what looks like I one man operation. Thanks again for your reply.

i have had my Airsafe about ten years. Like it very much. Sure keeps the trailer from taking a beating. We travel a lot of two lane highways and railroad crossings seem to be the worst.
I have never had any problem contacting them, although I have had no real need to. Called and talked before purchase, called and ordered, had one question after arrival.

I have the Gen-Y torsion hitch. It works pretty well. Definitely smooths out the ride. I have a 3" receiver so I bought the larger Gen-Y (17k maybe?).

The issue I have when using it with the equalizer hitch is I cannot get all the washers to go on. There is not enough clearance to angle the equalizer back (it hits the front of the Gen-Y). I got 3 washers on and its candidly not enough. I wonder if the lighter weight Gen-Y would work....but its too expensive to try as an experiment.

I have the Gen-y hitch I plan to use with my blue ox sway pro. unfortunately my Airstream has been at the dealer since May 31st and I have not been able to try out the new combination yet. I can post back when I do. I have a bad back and neck and so I'm really hoping this moves out the ride some I have also done a few things to my truck to help such as replace the body mounts and shocks.

Finally got my trailer back from the dealer. I have some more adjustments to do with the blue ox however the ride is much smoother. I think the GEN-Y hitch is worth the investment. Much cheaper option and I would think it will last longer.

AGREE! Completed 175mile initial trip with the Gen-Y. It’s everything promised/advertised. A noticeable smoother ride. Very pleased and the Gen-Y folks seem to be very customer focused and appreciate your business. Getting harder to find these days. Very happy with the results and the purchase.

I’ve been looking for a way to improve my towing experience with the Equalizer hitch and this is the real deal. I recently purchased the Gen-Y Boss Torsion Flex 16k / 2 1/2” shank. It is recommended for tongue weights from 1,000 - 1,700 lbs. my tongue weight is 1,088. This hitch isolates movement from the TV to RV and vice-versa. Very smooth ride compared to the standard Equalizer set up. No slop in the receiver. I tow a 27 FB twin Globetrotter with a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. Highly recommend it.

I just installed Gen Y torsion hitch to my Blue ox Sway pro. I purchased the 10, 000 hitch with tongue wt 400-1100. The 26 R twin Flying cloud tongue wt is 900 lb, so should be good match. I have not had opportunity to try it out yet, but looking forward to much smoother ride over bridges and concrete highways.

Highly recommend the Airsafe hitch, adjustability alone has its own merits. With this investment it is nice to be able to dial it in to your specific trailer but also adapt when towing other trailers with higher or lower tongue weight.

I've been using an AirSafe ClassV hitch for 26 years now, and it's been smooooth sailing over all those bumps-in-the-road I've run over so far. My trailer has thanked me many times for protecting it not only from those bumps, but also from the stiff suspension of my F250.

The commercial-grade Firestone air bag on the AirSafe still looks great after all that time. If it ever needs to be replaced, I can buy a new Firestone air bag and install it with no problem.

Downhill 502 makes a good point: the AirSafe can be adjusted for any given load within its rated capability by adding or removing air pressure. Mine can be filled from 10 to 100 PSI, depending on the tongue weight of any particular trailer and how its loaded.

It's a great product.

GOUSC - it has been a couple of months now - are you still enjoying the Gen-Y hitch/equalizer set up? I have the same trailer and WD hitch and was thinking about adding the Gen-Y hitch. Also any hint on dealing with the weight? That thing is heavy!!

Hi Andrew- still very pleased with the hitch. Gen-y and AirSafe are both pretty heavy. Gen-y at 100lbs. I had a Tractor Supply wooden dolly ($40) and put together a little stand to hold my Equalizer hitch. I was able to use the same one for the Gen-Y. I can slide it to/from my truck and only have to lift it about an inch. It doesn’t come off till I get back home (same process I used pre-GenY.

I saw an AirSafe thread where so one purchased a similar cart and a hydraulic lift for their AirSafe if you want something more impressive
