What's the Best Tow Truck for a 30' Excella 1000?

Just bought a '94 Excella 1000 30'. and now I've got to find something to tow it with. Figure 8500lbs of weight to move.

Brothers-in-law say four-wheel drive diesel, but my budget is $15K, and that's not likely to happen.

They also say Dodge or Chevy, and not the Ford diesel.

Any suggestions, please?

Dennis

Brand seems to be a personal thing. I have owned 4 chevy's in my life and didn't like any of them. Personal opinion.....

You don't need a 4x4 to tow with. In fact you get less mpg.

Dodge may be hard to get service on theses days. But your looking for a used one.

You will get plenty of personal opinions here. I think any of the 3 will work to pull with.

It comes down to options on the trucks and price...

No-one can tell you, only suggest.

Hi, (1.) The best tow vehicle will be one that is rated and capable to properly handle your trailer. (2.) The best tow vehicle will be one of your favorite brands. (3.) And the best tow vehicle will be one that you can afford. All three of these statements will be needed. More than likely you should be looking at a 3/4 ton something for this size trailer.

How often and how far are you going to be towing your tt? If the answer is often and far....a diesel pickup may be a good option for you. If the answer is not that often or far....then maybe a gas powered 3/4 ton SUV or Pickup.

Unlike a prior poster, I have had owned four full size Chevy pickups in the last 30 years, and never had problem one (except self inflicted) with any of them. I ABSOLUTELY love our current Chevy Silverado Duramax powered pickup!

I would do a search in your area on Autotrader for used diesel pickups. In my area (100 mile radius search), it popped up several 2001 to 2004 GM diesel pickups in your price range. Yes, they will all have in excess of 70,000 miles, but these are diesel drivetrains and they are built for the long haul.

Likewise, if your towing is going to be less often and not as far, 2001 to 2006 3/4 ton Suburbans would be a great option in your price range.
