This morning,Saint Andrews By The Sea, New Brunswickk. Yesterday, Brockville to Saint Andrews, 1100 K, 13 hours, 14.7 mpg. 2008 Jeep GC, 290,000 k, diesel, Can Am set up.
We tow with a 1969 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight 4 door hardtop or a 1971 Buick Centurion convertible.
.....and way back in 1952 my parents towed a 1950 Pan American with a 1948 Nash Ambassador. This rig brought our family (Dad, Mom, brother and me) from Detroit to Los Angeles via Route 66.

Between the superb aerodynamics of the Airstream & Traverse, low profile tires, reinforced hitch, two-speed Direclink brake controller and of course the Hensley, this rig is about as stable as you can get. Handles like a dream...I can two-finger the steering wheel all day long down the express way. (not that I would of course! ). I get 11-12 MPG which isn't bad for a cheepo V6 gasser that can haul 8 passengers.

Sheesh. Mine is so boring. The old cars are so dang cool as TVs.
Bob4x4, this must be the rig that rescued the other Dodge from being buried in the sand!
I did give my trailer a 4" lift when I got it so I could get it to our beach property. Can you guess what kind of wheels I have on my truck? Stock GMC hubcaps on another GM wheelset.
Sheesh. Mine is so boring. The old cars are so dang cool as TVs.

I feel the same way about mine. Functional? Yes. Stylish? Ugh. :-)
Especially with a stylish airstream!! I feel like the Tin Goat deserves better! If I could have one of those old beach wagon/woody mobiles with today's newfangled drivetrains and techno-shtuff that would be cool.
I think ggoat's set up is pretty sweet and that SSR is retro looking while the rest of it is very current. And the work done on the color scheme from TV to TT - especially those wheels and hub caps is just stunning!
But - I'm very happy with my setup too even though it seriously lacks the cool factor of those beautiful old cars you other folks are towing with!!!

Thanks!
Here's a top-down pic from last year before I got a bunch of mods done. The trailer looks WAY different now...kinda looks naked how it originally was. I especially like the way the streetside awning hides the white roof and the different finish on the trailer sides vs. the end caps (gloss vs. matte); you don't really notice the difference with the awning poles breaking it up. Just after this pic was taken I tackled the matching wheels/tires on the truck, and subsequently did a bunch of mods...I added three windows to the curbside (that Airstream installed crooked at first), streetside full size awning, rear window awning, dual aluminum radius'd fridge vents (replacing the horrid original plastic painted ones), stainless riveted water heater cover, 2nd Fantastic gray fan, three clearance lights across the front over the Airstream logo, all clearance lights changed once again (first time was at Bates) to the latest LED lights with "Classic" aluminum bezels, added a porthole window over the stove (Airstream installed the WRONG window...it is clear frosted; haven't fixed that yet), and added a solar panel. It was VERY expen$$$ive...and not very good work at the factory. I had ZipDee make some Pacific Blue Fancy wide chairs to match my awnings with "Airstream" logos added (which cost almost as much as the chairs themselves; I don't recommend doing the logos). I also removed all the stupid warning stickers and such...but left all the original logos. The factory every now and then totally rebuilds vintage trailers in the service bay; Rick at Airstream has had just a few "Custom" emblems actually custom made (no pun intended) for use on these trailers...effectively "1 of 1" trailers...I purchased one of these "Custom" emblems as the script matched the "75th Custom" Winick emblems on my trailer and had it installed on the rear of my trailer where a "Bambi" emblem would normally be (of which my trailer has none anywhere). You can see it some of the pics above if you "biggify" them (as my Dad says ha ha). My trailer being the prototype had nothing there and it needed something...the "Custom" emblem was the perfect choice. It was very difficult getting them to sell me one, but with all the f up's during my trailer's mods they relented. I'm glad they did; especially since the trailer surely is 1 of 1 and gets more custom every year.
I'm now on a silly quest before this year's trip to get everything outside matching...blue wheel chocks (hard to find in the USA, had to order them on eBay from Europe!), blue leveling blocks, blue sewer hose, custom made blue power cord, custom made blue cable tv cord, a blue water hose, blue extension cords...you get the idea. I'm going matching crazy at the moment. It's a shame since the interior is orange and green!

Interesting thread, and doing a scan I see the vast majority of those towing the larger trailers do so with either a pickup or a large SUV. Glad to see most are reasonable and safe.
Oh, mine is a '12, 3/4 ton Dodge Ram, crew cab, 4 X 4. Picture to follow.
