It all adds up. No matter how small.

We use paper plates, they are even lighter and can be repurposed in the campfire to annoy all our neighbors.

get rid of the microwave. Switch out glass for plastic. Switch out cast iron cookware for copper. Stop carrying bottled water. Fill water at the camp site.

Yup, you can do a lot. My philosophy is just live life and don't worry it. Unless you have serious issue carrying the weight that causes an out of control towing condition then it's probably not going to make that much difference. I can tow empty or full. I haven't noticed any difference.

Uggg, I CANNOT get the Missus to get rid of ceramic table service. I was able to get her to switch from earthenware to Corelle...but I was surprised it only saves 4 pounds.

Rich, instead of Corelle like we use at home, wife stocked the camper w/ Golden Rabbit, porcelain-coated steel. No, it's not as light as paper-plates, but I don't think it's heavier than Corelle, but it's sure durable, no need to carry spares in case something breaks. And it made her happy.

Will admit, on one hand, I tend to try to think like we're backpacking, limit the clothing choices, have items that can serve multiple purposes, etc. On the other hand, we're in a camper instead of backpacking, so, yeah, she likes to cook, so we do have more than just salt-n-pepper shakers on-hand.

I do fill up w/ water at home: I trust my town's tap water, but there are many places I don't necessarily do, so I tend to not refill the tank on the road, unless I have to.

Not all of us just camp. We live in ours for almost 3 months in Arizona in the winter....in between camping trips.

Lots of uses for a flat screen TV besides watching news. We find it nice to have a way to watch a movie or such on a long rainy day or to unwind at the end of a travel day. On this one I'd say it's to each his/her own.

For us the weight of the TV is worth it, but if someone doesn't watch then I'd agree it's something that can be tossed overboard to reduce weight further.

Lots of ways to cut a few ounces here and there for anyone that needs.

Lol. My wife has mostly fine bone China and heavy pottery. That's why I don't even try.

If you have a rear bed remove the heavy uncomfortable pull out queen sofa and weird fold out table up front and replace w U-shaped booth built out of light weight super strength 3-16” corrugated aluminum. Get a nice quality stantion, make a table that drops down to a King Cali plus. Booth comfortably seats 6 for dinner 8 hanging out.

Nest set your eyes on that dinnete they claim sleeps 2. Children I guess or 1 drunk adult in fetal position. Remove all that too, heavy stuff mdf, in efficient storage really.
Build a 20” deep by 67” long cabinet out of the same lightweight aluminum, use exposed aluminum rivets instead of screws to keep uniformity. Make some doors out of the light weight aluminum cabinet door channel from Lowes, again use rivets to attach sheets of aluminum to door channel. The doors will weight <3 lbs each. Again use aluminum hardware to make drawers for inside. Add tons of addition efficient storage space. I went from 5376 empty down to 4997. Galley has wide open feel. Lifting booth couch cushions reveals hinged door access to in obstructed storage.

Now I had a side to side WD from heavy dinnete to issue resolved by installing 3- 300ah batteries Victron multiplex in back of lower cabinets floor leaving some storage space and enough room to put your feet inside when using as high desk by pulling out keyboard mouse shelf.

Gross is 7300 I’ll be running around 6200ish with all gear and personals. The batteries are just in front of tandem axles which is good because I found myself having to shift some heavy rec gear from bottom of closets over axles to the front booth storage to get to 12% tongue weight

That’s pretty darn awesome. Not sure when airstreams turned into such heavy land whales. My 60 something is about half the gross of a new similar sized unit.

A lot of it is when they went to solid hardwood cabinetry and Corian counter tops. Then there is the addition of a lot of tech (which keeps on being added)

"TECH" Is that a fancy word for all the stuff that doesn't survive life in the trailer?

Yup, I am very glad I bought when I did. I don't want a lot of the stuff on the new ones....nor pay for it.

Thank you. Looks like your 04 28 has same front lay out as mine from avatar pic. Square window, vista view underneath, door, kitchen counter visible then square window (over sink?)

You will find more stuff. If it didn't get used last year, why bring it? is one limit. If you go over to " didn't use it on the last trip ", even more goes out..... If there's two folks, did you use 4 chairs? .....

The "heavy hitters" in most trailers are the cabinets / furniture. Redo them with something lighter and you will take off a good chunk of weight. If that's still "in bounds", the plywood floor can be replaced with something lighter ( no, I can't imagine that being in bounds ....). Still, those are the big hitters and thus the big opportunities for weight reduction.

Spare tire is a big chunk of weight. There are roadside outfits that will show up and replace a tire. Is this something everybody would want to do? Probably not.

If there's never a need for > 10% water in the tank, do you need tanks at all? Pumps and pipes have weight. How often do you shower in the trailer? Again, this is headed into some pretty unique / not for everybody changes.

Lots and lots of choices .....

Bob
There is always a tradeoff between efficiency and comfort. Case in point I usually only carry about 5gal of water in my freshwater tank, until I burned out my pump because I left the switch on, and we were traveling up hill in 118 F heat at the beginning of our trip. So, no on-board water. No big deal as we were staying at parks where water was on demand or so I thought. It seems that some parks were now requiring you to disconnect your freshwater hose after 10:00pm because of the potential to freeze. (I had heated hoses didn't matter) If you didn't there could be a fine. What? We had reservations at this park way ahead of time and were disinclined to move. It was inconvenient to say the least for the DW. So, what started out as a mild inconvenience, wound up as a pain for 45 days. Also, I think age has a lot to do with putting up with stuff. When you are young your more flexible and as you get older you are more into comfort.
