The large mirrors are not included in the Max Tow package in the 2017 & 2018 models and available separately (not sure about earlier years) so they are not indicative that the Max Tow package is on a particular vehicle. If you can't check the sticker, you could visualize the additional transmission cooler as that is one visible feature of the Max Tow package. Also, with the VIN, a cooperative dealer should be able to verify the presence of the package. If you are having a professional mechanic check out the truck, they should be able to see the transmission cooler during their inspection.

Provide the VIN to a Ford dealer and they should be able to give you the full specs. There are online VIN decoders too, but I'd trust the dealer more.

I've used this link in the past to get window stickers. The info comes directly from Ford.

look at the dash, can be done with on-line ads, there will be a trailer brake slide on the right hand side of the driver's dash, a small blank hole without...

Well you can order an F-150 with a brake control and not the Max Tow Package so that won't work.

Max Tow has an additional oil and trans cooler, which is very hard if not impossible to see.

The easy way is what was suggested, take the Vin # to you Ford dealer and they can tell you exactly whats on the truck.

Happy Motoring ;-)

In 2013 Max Tow required 3.73 axles so if you're really stuck you could jack it up and count drive shaft and wheel revs. But, as stated, the best advice is to ask Ford. I assume any dealer would help.

I had a 1987 E150 that I bought new. Twenty-six years later I contacted Ford Customer Service about a payload question and they sent me full specs and the original build sheet!

These are all good suggestions. We found ours by accident. We were at carmax looking at one parked next to it. I noticed the mirrrors, then checked the door tag with payload (1780). They didn't know what they had.

Ours was a fleet vehicle, which seems to be the majority of used with Max Tow. Good luck with your shopping
