Up and down
Next TV would like to be able to safely go down and up a 1500 foot road to my house that includes about 800 feet at 20% grade. This is google earth view https://earth.app.goo.gl/hDysa4 down to Pacific Coast Highway
I posted this two years ago when fire threatened about towing my smaller AS then with Highlander TV. We stayed and fire missed us. Today I have a 2020 GT and MZB 450 GL but won’t try up or down.
I am certain a 2500 diesel would work fine both up and down, yes? For the up do I need HD diesel or would a Ram 2500 hemi work?

Glad the fire missed you!
In the lowest gear, either engine/truck should do just fine on the asphalt IMO. 4WD would be safer for traction FWIW. Here is your old thread, so folks can read up for background:

Almost 3 years ago . . .
Is 20% grade correct? In the old thread you said 18.

so we can use a little math to estimate the heat buildup for this uphill climb. If I use an average speed of 15 mph it will take about 40 seconds to get up the hill. Did some heat balance estimated for a Cummings 6.7 turbo diesel, the hemi, and the auto transmissions. Both starting engine warm at 195 operating temperature. I get the diesel warming 5 degrees, the hemi 8 degrees and the transmissions 3 for the Cummings and 4 for the hemi. Actual will vary +/- 50% since I made a ton of assumptions to do this, but both will be fine. I did the same for a Hemi Charger just for fun, and that only went up by 10 degrees.

Ran the Mercedes 450 GL (I used the 2016 model) and it has no trouble up or down either..... Just sayin.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned doing that short trip in your MB honestly. If you really think you need a truck for that, the Hemi will do it just fine. The Hemi Ram 4x4 is rated for towing 17k#. I don’t think your 25’ GT would concern it the slightest.
