I'm predicting that the 2011 model year truck sales will go through the roof based on this story:

I'm seriously starting to think about buying my last TV in the next year or so. Based on the rise and fall of muscle car sales in the early 1970's, I also predict that super clean TV's will go for top dollar at Barrett-Jackson auctions in 2025!

I believe that these goals can be achieved, but probably won't include many of our tow vehicle. Generally 3/4 ton tucks and up are not included in the government's gas mileage figures.

When you are looking at stickers window stickers on new cars and trucks, you will notice that a half ton truck has an estimated MPG on the sticker. On a 3/4 ton tuck, none are shown. This is the point at which the government considers the vehicle a commercial truck and not a passenger car. Unless the government redefines their guidelines, none of this will impact many of our tow vehicles.

There's a move afoot to redefine vehicle definitions that would exclude the PT Cruiser, Chevy HHR and all mommy vans as light trucks, thus skewing the MPG requirements. The wild card is the fact that the government is a major shareholder in two of the major truck manufacturers. Throw in the Chinese tire tariffs and you have government controls that will have direct effects on TV's and RV's. Quite frankly, I hope that that all changes very quickly.
