Transmission (VSS)
We tow our AS with 2001 Ford F350 PSD. The Overdrive light started flashing intermittently approximately 6 months ago. Here’s what happens: It starts flashing when the truck is stopped and continues flashing for about 60 seconds until the truck reaches about 30 MPH and the flashing stops…and the trucks runs normal. In the beginning, this only happened about once a week but it’s become progressively worse and now happens almost every time the truck stops.
The local transmission shop checked the codes: Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction. The shop replaced the VSS, but the problem described above continued. I returned to the shop and they checked the codes again. The shop received the same codes (VSS malfunction). The shop replaced the connectors to the VSS, but same problem.
The transmission shop says the wire from the VSS to the computer is probably broken and/or chaffed. Shop says it’s a 2-wire run and couldn’t find the issue.
Can this wire be replaced?
Any suggestions on where to look and/or what to do next?
Thanks for your help!
