towing with a tundra

I have an 05 tundra with the small v-8 (4.1). I'm looking to buy an airstream with dry weight of 4230 and tongue weight of 620. Does anybody tow this size airstream with a vehicle like mine? This truck is the small body tundra and weighs only 6800lbs. which gives me pause pulling something over 4k. empty. I appreciate any and all feedback

I looked it up on internet. At first I saw the Tacoma. That only has 3500lbs capacity. Couldn’t find that year Tundra. Should say in your book. But if it can tow 6,000 to 7,000 lbs I would think it should work. If it would be me I would prefer the 7,000lbs only because you have to think payload, etc.

Edit:
Finally found it. 4700 to 5400lbs. Marginal at best. I would be hesitant.

With that 2004 Tundra, your definitely going to be limited to 22' trailers or smaller. It's not the engine size, but the frame and suspension are what's reducing your loads. Might consider upgrading to newer tow vehicle for high load capacity and towing safety.

My 2006 Toyota Tundra, double cab with a shell towed our 23 foot Safari without any difficulty. I would admit it probably was a bit light to towing a 23 foot, but not an issue. Towing was fine, but you needed to be focused on loading and overall weight for the suspension as Daquenzer said. You are pretty well maxed out, no matter what the numbers might say.

A friend towed a 25 foot Arctic Fox trailer with his 2001 Tundra. On an undulating asphalt road with weight in the trailer, the front axle would have reduced contact... with the pavement.

Both our Tundras were 4x4's.

The 2007 Tundra 5.7L towed the 23 foot easily, and the 25 foot International without issues, but probably a bit on the edge of capacity with the shell and loaded.

If you travel on 'flat country' the towing is not an issue. In the Rocky Mountains it is the BRAKING that will become an issue. You will have to learn the 'brake dance' so not to burn your disc brakes. If you can ski the black runs at Colorado ski resorts... you will do fine... up to 23 feet with a 4.7L Tundra.

Twenty seven feet... even I would not attempt that.

Being a bit confident, when the odds are against you can be of some help. Too much confidence can be a liability with anything over 23 feet, marginal at 25 feet and super powers at 27 feet and beyond.

2006 Tundra towing a 23 foot Safari

The proof is in the 'pudding'. A 2006 Tundra, double cab, 4x4, 4.7L towing a 23 foot 2006 Safari.

I have pulled my 68 Tradewind with my 2001 Tundra (4.7L) for 9 years. The trailer weighs 4200lbs loaded for a camping trip and the tongue weight is around 520lbs. It pulls is OK, my truck trailer combo "likes" 62 mph so I rarely tow any faster. I do wish for more power when in the Smokies or Ozark but we get there just not real fast in the big hills. My son has a 2006 Tundra double cab and a 4300lb. SOB. He says he would not tow anything any heavier. We both have Equalizer hitches and P3 brake controllers and we both get around 10-11mpg when towing.
