our q5 easily pulls a 22FB easily

the people at CANAM in london, ON, often pull at 25 or longer all the way from the AS factory in an older diesel VM Jetta

thus the q7 should have NO difficulties

Have 2017 Q7 and pulled my 2016 23FB about 10,000 miles after two summers. I use the 1,000 pound equalizer hitch stabilizer with it. Never lacked power up hills. Averaged 14 MPG at 55 to 60 Miles an hour. Can't say how many people asked me if I pull with that when I was not hitched. I bought an adapter $25 on the 7 round connector cable to translate the LED lights. Had Audi wire up the brake controller. Outside mirrors need 3rd party extension, I used the AS backup camera as a safety by keeping it on as I was driving, just adjusted it up slightly.

Great combo

Thanks for the info. I’m a newbie to Airstream. We just got a ‘21 27FB FC. Have access to F150, but currently have 2017 AudiQ7. Like previous post said, tw is 7700 pounds. Won’t take it tons of places and not on mountains much. Will my Audi be OK or should I consider a larger TV? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you have your heart set on the Q7, and you are willing to jump through several significant hoops to make it safer and more stable, and even then you are willing to accept some modest risk for some of the more rare road and weather conditions, you can make it work. Be aware that the 7,700 lb rating is for european roads, speed limits, and european travel trailer designs. Also know that the 7,700 limit is set for license regulations not technical or safety considerations. However European built trailers have much lighter tongue weight requirements and still are able to maintain dynamic stability because they concentrate trailer weight near the axles so the guiding limit you want to use is the Audi tongue weight recommendation. Here is where you will have significant issues towing a 27' trailer because the optimal tongue weight for stability of loaded for camping US market 27' Airstreams is about 1200 lbs and that is way over the recommended limit Audi provides. The Audi will continue to feel nice and crisp, others will report they tow like a dream, but without making several adaptations, there will be concealed instability issues.

An F150 will safely tow a 27' Airstream without jumping through hoops but it is on the upper edge of ideal, so it won't be as comfortable as it could be and you may have performance issues occasionally.

Thus neither is an ideal choice but the F150 will be easier to make it work.

Looking to tow a new 20X Basecamp with a 2019 Q7-Advise?

Good friend looking at taking delivery of a new Basecamp 20X this month. He is looking at purchasing a "new to him" tow vehicle: 2019 Audi Q7 2.0, Premium Plus with 41K miles and tow package including a Class4 hitch. Don't think it has a seperate brake controller, but service guys said when the Audi is programed for trailer/towing, it will still activate the trailer brakes somewhat; if more braking is needed, will need to install an aftermarket brake controller? Any concerns or advise on overall Q7 with the Basecamp 20X or similar size AS? Appreciate any input/experience.

I’ve been looking at several vehicles for a 2021 Flying Cloud 23FB. I have a Audi Q5 TDI and it won’t tow enough although I know several people who do use it and that likely I could get it fitted to work but we are interested in a second vehicle and one that can tow well.

I had a loaner 2021 Q7 base model and I don’t think the engine is well suited for the Q7. I felt it was low in power. I would suggest your friend drive both the base and the 3.0. The base I think can tow 4,400 which is the same as the 2014 Q5 TDI I have but my Q5 TDI has 240HP abs 428lbs Torque. The base Q7 is lower and heavier.

Goos luck to your friend!

We towed our 2017 International 30 with a 2017 Q7. It's a lovely combination, but we don't recommend it for something as large as what we have. We eventually parked the Q7 and switched up to a 2020 Ford F250 Diesel. Overkill? Perhaps, but we feel safer.

Wise decision, I think...I love my F250 6.7L with our 28' also! The Q7 was only a 2.0L so it is out....he is looking at a 2017 MBZ 350 4Matic with the tow package, only 26K miles, and a payload of 1239lbs. His payload on the 20X Basecamp <600lbs (spec is 545lbs) Think this is a better TV?

My Q7 is a 2017 with 325hp and 333lbf torque. Supercharged 3.2l v6.
We got talked out of buying a truck by the AS dealer who made a really convincing argument in favour of towing with a German SUV.
What we didn’t know was that he had to weld some steel box member to the chassis to bolster the towing hitch. Went from class 3 to class 4 and I believe voided our warranty. Had lots of tire wear issues as a result, according to Audi. Anyway, the ride was fine. Towing was a breeze. But we were at the carrying capacity and we wanted some more headroom.
I would not recommend Q7 for 30’ AS

I think the Q7 or Q8 will be okay for the 2021 Flying Cloud 23FB that we ordered:

Hitch Weight467 lbs
Gross Weight6000 lbs
Dry Weight4806 lbs
Cargo Weight1194 lbs
