Towing my 66 Caravel....

After spending almost a year getting my 66 Caravel ready to tow I finally made my first couple of trips this summer. Before I could get plate for the trailer (here in Ontatio) I had to have the trailer weighed. It came in at just under 2000 lbs, with no water or propane. My tow vehicle is a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon, with the factory option OEM tow hitch. This particular car has a 5 cylinder, 220 HP engine, with low profile tires, low center of gravity and excellent 4 wheel disc brakes. It is rated for a max. tow capacity of 3300 lbs with brakes. I was a little nervous, as this was the first time I had ever towed anything at all, but was pleasently surprised at how easily the car was able to pull the trailer. Keep in mind the weight of my trailer is so low because its been modified, a lot of the old appliances have been removed.
Camping in a vintage airstream trailer was a great experience, made all the hard work worthwhile.

Congratulations Anton66, it appears you have a well-balanced rig. I love the Volvo wagons, and tied to an Airstream...well, that's a dream team.

Sounds good Anton.

Many of us on the forum here tow Airstreams with cars and find it an A1 experience. I would bet you will get years of enjoyment from your combination.

I spend about 3 hours a week on the QEW highway here near Toronto. At least once a week I see a moden car towing a trailer.

We were suprized pulling a Overlander with a F250 Ford. We didn't hardly feel the AS after getting her rolling.
