Tow a 25' GT FBT w '18 Tahoe?

Anyone have any experience with towing a recent 25' Globetrotter with a late model Chevy Tahoe? I've got a '18 Tahoe LS 5.3L V8 with Max trailering package, integrated brake controller, 3.42 rear axle and suspension package. With a WD hitch, the tongue weight and tow weight are well below specs but because we do some travel in the mountains, I'm curious if anyone is towing with this combo and their experience?

Welcome to Airforums!

Your tongue weight is probably not "well below specs". Many people on this forum report actual tongue weight on their 25FB trailer to be around 1000 pounds. Some have measured over 1100 pounds. Mine was last measured at 990, and that was before I upgraded my batteries to group 27.

As for the vehicle capabilities, I tow my 25FB Flying Cloud with a 2010 Yukon 6.2L AWD with a six speed transmission. Plenty of power but the gearing is rather "tall" for the mountains in Colorado. Also, the transmission cooling is marginal. On the big mountain climbs, I watch the temp closely and pull over to let it cool when it approaches 250.

With your tongue weight at 990, what was the trailer weight? We tend to pack pretty lightly, but if normal packing is going to push the HW that much, we'll have to consider that.

The 990 was with a tongue weight scale. We did not get axle weights at that time. When I have gotten trailer weights, the readings have been around 6900 pounds (with food, water, propane, etc.) Combined weights have been in the range 13,100 to 13,340.

We tow our 2015 25FC FBT with a 2015 Yukon Denali, essentially the same trailer and vehicle except that we have the 6.2L L86 engine. Not sure how the tow ratings might differ. We use a WD hitch. Combination tows very well in every environment we have encountered, flatland to mountains, desert summer to mountain winter. IMHO, the 5.3 will be more than adequate for the combination. I don't know if there is a difference in brake spec between the Denali and the Tahoe, but we have plenty of braking power.

Sometime back I deleted the Magnetic Ride shock absorber system and replaced with ACDelco replacement shocks from the standard Yukon/Denali. Kept the air shocks and auto leveling intact, just without the Mag Ride feature. I cannot identify any change from the original setup except the standard shocks do seem to allow a little more porpoising under certain conditions. Not objectionable or unsafe by any means, just a difference I noticed.

We had a 2015 25 FC FB. With full tanks and the front lockers, even with conservation, we weighed 1300hitch We travel with full water tanks and balanced our storage distribution. It was a shocker.

We decided we were going for a TV that we could never worry about hitch weight, cargo and in case of newer trailer. 350 never looked back. Tows like a dream. It is our only vehicle we adjusted to that. Maybe overkill for some but perfect for us and never tired after a long tow and mountain easy peasy.

Personal choice. The threads on TV are plentiful.

You have a 25’ FBT like me so I betcha it’s over a 1,000 lbs easy. Mine is 1175 and I consider myself a light traveler. The FBT config weighs much more than a RBT. Beds, under bed and over the bed storage compartments, propane tanks, batteries, the hitch assembly, outside front storage compartment, the holding tanks, etc - it all adds up.

I towed a 30ft FC Bunk with a 2016 Yukon for 3 years with no issues, (2 trips Michigan to Florida) had a Husky centerline hitch and it towed it with ease, the airbag suspension made for a really nice ride towing it. Not an expert just sharing experience.
